We are currently hiring a Para Educator - Special Education (Life Skills) to join our team at Evergreen Elementary for the remainder of the school year. Apply by March 16th, 2026 for best consideration. Interview Process:

Schedule:
Remainder of the school year, (inclusive of holidays); 6.5 hours per day; M-F. This position is temporary for the 25/26 school year, but may be extended into future school years based on student enrollment, funding, and program need.
Location:
Evergreen Elementary Salary: $25.03 - $28.18 per hour, depending on experience. Salary Range is based on the 25/26 ESP Salary Schedule. FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt (overtime eligible) Benefits: 12 sick leave days; 10 paid holidays; 6 personal leave days (to be deducted from sick leave); 5 bereavement leave days; (leave to be pro-rated by employee's scheduled work days for the school year); health insurance benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) including medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance; other fringe benefits as allowed under under School Board Policies and Procedures and the Educational Support Personnel Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Overview One-on-one Para Educators support the Shelton School District's Strategic Plan and School Improvement Plans through supporting and assisting with the supervision and instruction of students. This includes supporting the student's goals as outlined in their Individualized Education Program (IEP), supporting the maintenance of positive student behavior, preparing and organizing classroom materials, cleaning and disinfecting toys and mats, providing one-on-one tutoring, assisting with classroom management, providing instructional assistance, conducting family involvement activities, providing support in learning centers, assisting with the implementation of student educational plans, and providing instructional support services under the direct supervision of a teacher.
Requirements:
* Completed two (2) years (72 quarter credits) of study at an institution of higher learning OR AA degree from an approved institution, OR completion of the ETS Para Pro Assessment with a passing score.
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Ability to pass a Federal criminal background check.
* Ability to complete 28 hours of District provided training within the first school year of employment as required by statute.
* Successful experiencing working with students with developmental disabilities (preferred, not required).
* Ability and willingness to learn and implement new strategies and techniques.
* Ability and willingness to work with students with varying disabilities both cognitive and physical.
* Possession of excellent communication skills including active listening and two-way communication.
* Ability and willingness to maintain an upbeat, positive, and collaborative demeanor.
* Ability and willingness to maintain confidentiality and tact in all aspects of employment.
* Ability and willingness to incorporate lightheartedness and humor into the workplace.
* Ability and willingness to make independent decisions as well as work collaboratively with other staff.
