GPI is seeking knowledgeable and detail-oriented construction engineering and inspection staff to support our transportation projects in the Connecticut region. This full-time field-based role is ideal for a construction inspection professional who takes pride in safety, quality, and regulatory compliance and enjoys hands-on work in active construction environments.
Construction Inspection plays a critical role in verifying the integrity, safety, and quality of transportation infrastructure through thorough inspection, documentation, and collaboration with project stakeholders. This particular advertisement is for someone who has experience with repair and rehabilitation of bridge steel components involving field welding inspection.
Responsibilities- Perform visual inspections of structural welds, specifically related to steel bridge components, to verify compliance with approved specifications, codes, and industry standards
- Review, interpret, and apply welding procedures, inspection criteria, and applicable regulations
- Identify welding defects, nonconformances, and quality concerns; communicate findings clearly and professionally
- Verify corrective actions and ensure issues are resolved in accordance with project and regulatory requirements
- Maintain accurate inspection records and reports in accordance with GPI and client standards
- Collaborate effectively with contractors, project teams, and clients while maintaining professional working relationships
- Promote and support a strong culture of safety, quality, and compliance in the field
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification or equivalent (CPWI) is required
- NICET Level 1 or 2 or 3, EIT or PE, or a CCM from CMAA
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proven problem-solving ability and attention to detail
- Comfortable working in field environments and addressing challenges in real time
- Advanced or additional welding inspection certifications
- Prior experience supporting transportation infrastructure projects
- Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
- Possess a personal vehicle for use on or around a job site
- Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
- Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
- Able to stand for approximately 3 hours minimum a day up to 8 hours
- Able to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19 or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground, etc.)
- Able to climb and leave a ladder to a platform varying from 6' to 20'
- Able to operate a mechanical aerial lift or bucket truck up to a height of 100 feet
- Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
- Able to move equipment or inspection specimens weighing up to 50 pounds
