Newtown Savings Bank is seeking a positive, high-energy Part‑time Teller for our White Hills (Shelton) Branch. This position works with Branch Management to implement and carry out bank policy, procedures, and goals with respect to the overall operation of the branch. The teller will proactively generate leads for all banking relationships and cover other branches as directed.
ScheduleThis part‑time role averages 20–25 hours per week, with shifts falling between 10 am–2 pm on weekdays and a required 8:30 am–12:30 pm Saturday shift.
Primary Responsibilities- Provide prompt and courteous service to all external and internal customers. Resolve customer complaints or refer them to management as needed, and use courteous telephone etiquette when answering, transferring, and calling customers. Be proactive in greeting lobby customers to provide an excellent customer service environment.
- Proactively offer solutions and solicit new business by uncovering needs, identifying solutions, and making appropriate recommendations. Promote the complete line of deposit products and related services to customers to reach defined goals and enhance profitability. Accurately respond to customer inquiries and identify new sales opportunities, referring customers to the appropriate sales representative, commercial lending, mortgage and investment solutions as appropriate.
- Perform daily customer transactions within authority limits, processing all transactions in accordance with bank policy and procedure; receive supervisor approval for those outside authority level.
- Perform basic customer maintenances such as address changes, check ordering, and other account information changes.
- Assist Branch Management with administrative duties such as ATM balancing, night drop processing, branch balancing, and other daily branch operations as needed.
- Adhere to the weekly staff schedule and support Branch Management in creating an environment where employees feel engaged, supported, and valued.
- Maintain knowledge of and follow all CIP, BSA, AML and OFAC requirements, as set forth in the bank’s policies, procedures and programs. Complete all compliance requirements by scheduled deadlines.
- Support the bank’s mission, vision, and core values.
- Meet the bank’s volunteer specifications and be involved in community activities as necessary.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Customer service experience preferred.
- Sales experience preferred.
Must be able to communicate effectively while interacting with internal and external customers in person, on the telephone or in writing. Strong customer service skills required. Must be able to speak in small groups or one‑on‑one and be proficient in routine letters and customer correspondence.
Problem‑Solving SkillsAbility to apply common sense to carry out functions furnished in written or oral form. Capable of performing a variety of duties without loss of efficiency or composure, multitasking, and performing repetitive work according to set procedures while meeting deadlines and performing well under pressure.
Other SkillsTask oriented, organized, and works well in a team environment. Able to listen, follow instructions, receive guidance and supervision, and follow work rules and procedures.
AttendanceRequired to work weekends and may be required to work extended hours; regular, reliable attendance is critical.
