Position: Director, Information Technology

Reports To: President

About the Role

The Director, Information Technology is the company leader for the strategy, security, and day-to-day management of enterprise information technology systems supporting Iroquois. This role ensures the reliability, security, and compliance of business and operational support systems while aligning technology initiatives with regulatory requirements and organizational objectives. Has overall responsibility for the company-wide information technology infrastructure and for the coordination of company-wide information technology services.

Develops company-wide policy proposals, authorizes and prioritizes new initiatives, acquires and allocates resources, and creates and implements I.T. strategies. The Director, IT partners closely with Operations, Engineering, Compliance, and Executive Leadership to support safe and efficient pipeline operations while promoting a company culture that values teamwork amongst department members.

Responsibilities
  • Develops strategies, plans and budgets for the company’s investments in technology infrastructure and business and operational systems. End Result:
    Business objectives are supported by appropriate and effective digital technologies. There is a balance of quality solutions and controlled costs.
  • Plans and oversees staffing and departmental organization. Selects, develops and motivates qualified staff. Takes affirmative action in all conditions of employment to ensure consistency with government rules and regulations and company policies and procedures. End Result:
    Business systems and communications infrastructures are aligned to operational needs. I.T. consistently delivers timely, reliable and effective systems and support services. Staff turnover is low.
  • Approves proposals, plans and business cases for the selection, design, development and maintenance of all company information technology products and services. End Result:
    The information technology needs of the company are met while cost of information technologies is controlled within guidelines set by management.
  • Establishes policies, standards, practices and cyber security measures for the use of computer technologies within the company. End Result:
    Functionally appropriate and operationally effective computer standards, practices and services contribute to efficient company operations. System and data integrity and security is maintained.
  • Provides guidance and counsel to IT management staff in the definition and application of technical solutions and the resolution of priorities and conflicts. End Result:
    Timely and functionally appropriate solutions to business needs are developed in collaborative partnership with peers, clients and external resources.
  • Maintains knowledge of developments in the industry areas of methodologies, best practices, emerging technologies and market dynamics. End Result:
    New developments in the computer industry are incorporated into future systems and services for the company’s business operations. Costs are reduced and productivity enhanced.
  • Advises the company’s senior officers and management throughout the organization on technology issues, strategies, trends and opportunities. End Result:
    Technology decisions are aligned with business objectives. Opportunities to improve productivity and quality and to reduce costs are identified and acted upon. Optimum utilization of information technology products and services is ensured.
Qualifications

Minimally, a degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, or related field is required. Preference is given to a Master’s degree or equivalent experience. The incumbent will have at least ten years of diversified experience in Information Technology, with a minimum of five years managing one or more major information processing functions. Experience in gas pipeline, midstream energy, or regulated utility industries.

Skills
  • General business and management practices.
  • Cyber security for Critical Infrastructure organizations.
  • Information Technology organization design, strategic planning, infrastructure and business application options, policies and operational procedures.
  • Broad knowledge of technical disciplines: cyber security, networks, database, design and programming.
  • Considerable human relations and communication skills are required to liaise with department heads and corporate officers and to maintain an effective, motivated and coordinated team.
Preferred Skills

Experience in gas pipeline, midstream energy, or regulated utility industries.
