Position: CHOICE Open Doors Teacher (0.5 FTE)

We are currently hiring for an Open Doors Teacher (0.5 FTE) at CHOICE High School for the  school year. For best consideration, please apply by July 16th, 2026.

Interview Process:
If selected for an interview, you will be invited to complete an Asynchronous Virtual Interview, which should be completed within 48 hours of the invitation for best consideration. Candidates chosen for a second round interview will participate in an in-person interview.

Schedule:

0.5 FTE; (3.5 hours per day, 180 days per school year)

Location:

CHOICE High School

Salary: $32,332 - $59,516 annually (prorated based on FTE status), depending on experience. The listed salary range is based on the  school year's salary range, and will be updated once  salaries are finalized.

FLSA Status:
Exempt

Benefits: 12 sick leave days of which 6 can be used for personal leave each school year; 5 days bereavement leave per school year; health insurance benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) including medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance. Retirement through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS); other fringe benefits as allowed under the Shelton Education Association (SEA) Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Overview

The Choice High School Open Doors Teacher will support Shelton School District's Strategic Plan and School Improvement Plans through the instruction and reengagement of youth ages 16-21 who have faced educational challenges with a focus on core content areas.

Requirements
  • Possession of a valid Washington State Teaching Endorsement.
  • Ability to pass a Federal Criminal Background check.
  • Willingness to actively support Shelton School District's Strategic plan and initiatives.
  • Willingness to use District issued unit plans, lesson plans, and approved curriculum.
  • Ability to support students with academic planning and goal setting.
  • Ability to identify and analyze data to identify student issues, needs, and challenges and take appropriate actions accordingly.

  • Ability to support the development of a school master schedule.
  • Ability to develop and provide social and emotional learning activities for students.

Essential Functions
  • Creates and delivers lesson plans and unit plans in alignment with District approved curriculum following the scope and sequence for math, science, language arts, and social studies).
  • Develops and maintains positive, professional relationships with students, other staff, families, and administrators.
  • Advises families of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher's expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Assesses students for the purpose of providing feedback to students, families, and administration regarding students' progress, expectations, goals, etc.
  • Collaborates with other teachers to review data, implement interventions, align their scope and sequence, and improve their instructional practices with a focus on student growth.
  • Collaborates with school personnel, families, and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions, and delivering District approved curriculum.
