SUMMARYThe Accountant II is responsible for performing advanced accounting and financial management duties for the Northwest Indian Treatment Center (NWITC). This position manages complex accounting functions including financial reporting, budget monitoring, accounts payable and receivable oversight, grant and contract tracking, account reconciliation, audit preparation, and financial analysis. The Accountant II assists in ensuring compliance with Tribal, Federal, State, and grant funding requirements while supporting the overall financial integrity and operational efficiency of the organization.
This is an on-site position located at the Northwest Indian Treatment Center and requires regular in-person collaboration with NWITC leadership, program staff, and the Squaxin Island Tribe Finance Department. The position works closely with the Tribe’s Finance Department to support financial reporting, purchasing processes, budget oversight, audit preparation, and compliance with Tribal financial policies and procedures.
This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, professionalism, and the ability to work independently in a healthcare and behavioral health environment while maintaining strict confidentiality of financial, employee, and patient-related information.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Perform advanced accounting functions for NWITC financial operations.
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, reports, reconciliations, and journal entries.
- Monitor departmental budgets, expenditures, and revenue tracking.
- Assist leadership with annual budget preparation, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Review and process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
- Monitor grant funding expenditures and ensure compliance with grant requirements and allowable costs.
- Prepare financial reports and supporting documentation for leadership, auditors, funding agencies, and Tribal administration.
- Assist with annual audits and coordinate requested financial documentation.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements, payroll allocations, and general ledger accounts.
- Maintain compliance with GAAP, Tribal policies, Federal regulations, and applicable funding requirements.
- Maintain regular on-site attendance at NWITC to support daily financial operations and interdepartmental collaboration.
- Work closely with the Squaxin Island Tribe Finance Department regarding financial reporting, purchasing, budgeting, audit preparation, and compliance with Tribal financial procedures.
- Coordinate with Tribal departments to ensure timely processing of invoices, purchase requests, reimbursements, and financial documentation.
- Assist with implementation and adherence to Squaxin Island Tribe financial policies, internal controls, and accounting procedures.
- Collaborate with payroll and Human Resources staff to ensure payroll accuracy and proper financial allocations.
- Analyze financial trends and identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and cost savings.
- Maintain organized financial records and electronic filing systems.
- Assist with development and implementation of financial policies and procedures.
- Support purchasing, procurement, and inventory tracking processes as assigned.
- Provide financial guidance and support to department managers regarding budgets and expenditures.
- Participate in organizational meetings, trainings, and strategic planning activities.
- Demonstrate professionalism and uphold the mission, values, and cultural standards of NWITC and the Squaxin Island Tribe.
- Assist with preparation, review, and management of organizational contracts, agreements, and financial exhibits.
