Posting Information: We are currently hiring a Utility Worker to join our team at our Vehicle Maintenance (MCTC) Shop for the remainder of the  school year.

This position will be open until filled.

Interview Process: Applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible for best consideration. If selected for an interview, you will be contact by the Transportation team to schedule an in person interview.

Schedule: 4 hours per day; M-F. This position is temporary for the remainder of the 25/26 school year, June 12th, 2026, but may be extended into future school years based on student enrollment, funding, and program need.

Salary: $25.21 - $29.35 per hour, depending on experience.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (overtime eligible)

Benefits: 12 sick leave days; 5 family emergency leave days (to be deducted from sick leave); 5 bereavement leave days; (leave accruals will be prorated based on hire date); other fringe benefits as allowed under the Shelton School District Teamsters Collective Bargaining Agreement and School Board Policy and Procedures.

Job Summary:

MCTC Utility Worker's support Shelton School District's Strategic Plan by maintaining clean, safe, and functional working conditions at the MCTC facility. This role assists MCTC staff with daily operational needs and helps ensure safe and reliable operating conditions at MCTC.

Minimum Requirements:
  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • The ability to pass a CDL driving abstract.
  • CDL Class B with P & S endorsement (preferred).
  • The ability to pass a federal background check.
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and implement new strategies and techniques in the workplace.
  • Possession of excellent communication skills in writing and orally including active listening and two-way communication.
  • Ability and willingness to maintain an upbeat, positive, and collaborative demeanor.

Essential Functions:
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized facility, including the shop, parking lot, and fuel island.
  • Assist drivers as needed with adjusting mirrors, seats, and starting buses in cold weather.
  • Support accurate parts inventory management, including picking up and organizing parts.
  • Assist with cleaning vehicles inside and outside for the purpose of maintaining a clean and sanitized fleet.
  • Assist in pre-tripping buses for route as needed.
  • Maintain MCTC shop trucks, ensuring they are fully stocked and prepared for service calls at all times.
  • Perform minor vehicle repairs, including replacing light bulbs, wiper blades, seat covers, and repairing upholstery.
  • Check and add fluids to vehicles as needed, such as coolant, oils, brake fluid and windshield washer fluid.
  • Ensure all shop equipment and tools are clean and in good working condition.
  • Assist in achieving and maintaining 100% compliance with Washington State Patrol (WSP) inspections.
  • Performs other relevant duties as assigned.
