Licensed Practical Nurse 4 (LPN4)
Full‑time, permanent position at Washington Corrections Center, Shelton, WA.
Schedule:
Wednesday – Sunday, 14:00 – 22:30.
The Department of Corrections seeks a highly motivated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN4) to provide nursing care in a correctional setting.
Compensation & Shift Premiums- $2.50 per hour for evening and night shift work.
- $1.00 per hour for work from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
- $3.00 per hour for work from Friday midnight to Sunday midnight.
- Monitor and collect specific data about health status, clinical condition, or situation of individuals, families, groups, and communities by interview, observation, inspection, and examination, and report results to the Registered Nurse.
- Assist the Registered Nurse in developing nursing diagnoses and outcomes to be achieved as a result of nursing intervention.
- Contribute to development of plan of nursing care, including identification of approaches, time frames, and pathways for the delivery of health care; assist in prioritizing and sequencing care.
- Carry out the plan of care by performing therapeutic nursing interventions, informing others about urgency, time and methods to deliver health care on and off site, and determine when needs for care are beyond the LPN scope and obtain direction from the Registered Nurse.
- Assist the Registered Nurse in analysis and evaluation of structure, process and time frames for service delivery, expected effects of treatment, and outcomes to be achieved; revise plan of care as necessary.
- Employ appropriate safety techniques to push, pull, lift, and carry loads.
- Supervise and assign tasks to subordinate staff on the nursing team.
- Delegate and assign responsibility for patient care to other Licensed Practical Nurses and assistive nursing personnel after considering patient needs, condition, stability, potential for harm, complexity of tasks and predictability of outcomes.
- Teach, instruct, monitor, supervise, and evaluate implementation of tasks and results of patient care assigned to other personnel.
- Supervise staff to whom functions have been delegated and report outcomes of delegated nursing tasks to the Registered Nurse or another supervising health care provider.
- Maintain readiness and competence to practice nursing as assigned.
- Brief appropriate personnel on pertinent information before departing from duty to ensure continuity of patient care.
- Effectively communicate verbally, in writing, and via computer or other electronic media with offenders, their families, other health care personnel, custody, and institutional personnel.
- Legibly document subjective and objective clinical findings and actions taken to deliver nursing and other aspects of health care.
- Protect confidentiality of health records.
- Maintain accurate, legible, and complete records of patient care.
- Assist in coordination of pertinent information to health care providers for patients scheduled for community‑based care.
- Coordinate health care received by patients by completing encounter forms.
- Complete unusual incident reports and investigate incidents.
- Respond to verbal and written requests from offenders and institution staff.
- As delegated by the Registered Nurse, responsible for overseeing the medication administration area and patient care.
- Participate in medication lines and individual medication administration; process medication orders and order medications.
- Provide patient education regarding medications and prepare release medications in anticipation of offender transfer or release.
- Serve as lead clinical nurse in treatment rooms; participate in treatments, dressing changes, monitor vital signs, and assist with minor surgical procedures within scope of practice.
- Execute licensed practitioners’ written, verbal, and telephone orders.
- Provide emergency medical care, including CPR.
- Two years experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse, or an unencumbered Multistate License from a participating Compact Licensure State with completion of Suicide Prevention, EDIR training, and MLS demographic survey.
