Salary Information

Corrections & Custody Officer 1 (TEAMSTERS Range 45 Step J‑M)

  • Full‑time: $6,046 – $6,512
  • On‑call/Hourly: $34.75 – $37.43

Corrections & Custody Officer 2 (TEAMSTERS Range 48 Step H‑M)

  • Full‑time: $6,200 – $7,013
  • On‑call/Hourly: $35.63 – $40.30
Qualifications
  • One year experience as a DOC Corrections and Custody Officer, including successful completion of CORE and the Correctional Officer Field Training Program.
  • OR one year experience as a Correctional Officer in adult or juvenile corrections where security functions equivalent to a DOC Corrections and Security Officer 2 were performed.
  • Graduation from high school or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • The legal (Constitutional) right to carry a firearm.
Responsibilities

In an adult correctional facility, Correctional Officers provide safety and security, assist in controlling, directing, and monitoring the activities and movement of incarcerated individuals, maintain security of the institution and control movement into, out of, and within the institution in accordance with established department methods and procedures. Officers are expected to be positive role models, work with inmates to help them become productive members of society, use interpersonal and communication skills to correct and counteract criminal thinking, and maintain safe confinement environments for successful re‑entry.

Overtime is an essential function of this position. Officers must successfully complete the Correctional Worker Core (CWC), a six‑week academy for all DOC correctional workers.

On‑Call Positions

On‑call staff may work an average of 32‑40 hours per week; positions have no minimum hour guarantee. Incumbents will attend six weeks of full‑time paid training immediately upon hire and will be considered for permanent and/or temporary vacancies as they occur. All correctional officers, including those in on‑call positions, are provided with a benefits package (medical, dental, vision, retirement, paid sick leave, holiday pay, paid vacation) provided they work at least 20 hours or more each week.

Location

Washington Corrections Center is located 35 miles west of Olympia, WA. It is the reception and diagnostic center, a close‑custody facility responsible for processing, testing, and classifying all adult male felons sentenced to prison in Washington State. The facility has eight living units and houses 1,500 offenders. About 600 offenders are screened and assessed each month, and the center is the major hub for transfer of offenders to and from facilities throughout the state.
