The Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a Construction Maintenance Projects Supervisor to serve at the Washington Corrections Center (WCC) in Shelton, Washington.

WCC is a Reception and Diagnostic Center for adult male felons. It has seven living units and houses approximately 1,700 incarcerated individuals, screening about 500 per month. The center serves as a major hub for transfers throughout the state.

Role Overview

Under the direction of the Plant Manager 3, the supervisor plans, directs, and performs skilled construction and maintenance work throughout the facility, including inspections, diagnostics, servicing, installation, and corrective maintenance on plant equipment and systems such as water distribution, irrigation, plumbing, buildings, structures, floors, walls, doors, windows, roofs, grounds, roads, pathways, fencing, and related facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Schedule, direct, coordinate, and supervise a regional maintenance crew during new construction and facility maintenance projects.
  • Supervise plumbing and pipe fitting/steamfitting supervisors.
  • Ensure timely completion of evaluations, monitor staff training compliance, and enforce required training.
  • Provide on-site inspections to assess maintenance or repair needs.
  • Prepare preliminary cost estimates and project projections.
  • Order materials to meet project priorities.
  • Hire and train incarcerated individuals (I/I) as needed.
  • Conduct daily tool crib inspections and maintain housekeeping and safety standards.
  • Act as on-site project coordinator, directing, training, and supervising crews.
  • Teach I/I work crews maintenance tasks, including equipment operation, preventive maintenance, mechanical reading, protective gear use, and safety procedures.
  • Schedule and execute tasks from repair work orders promptly.
  • Submit accident injury reports when necessary.
  • Implement and maintain preventive maintenance plans for plant equipment, buildings, roofs, fences, fire safety equipment, tool cribs, and safety gear.
  • Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing, electrical, steam, heating, domestic and irrigation water systems, sewage systems, and related equipment.
  • Operate Class A and B welding equipment and perform tasks such as welding, carpentry, and painting.
  • Collaborate with the recycling program and transport materials.
  • Operate institutional vehicles when necessary.
  • Maintain and update Safety Data Sheets for chemicals.
  • Obtain bids/quotes and purchase materials in accordance with purchasing regulations.
  • Manage part and supply inventory for institutional use.
  • Adhere to agency policies, safety, security, and maintenance procedures.
  • Supervise snow removal operations.
  • Perform other related work and duties as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Valid driver's license.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • At least four years of construction or building maintenance experience, or journey-level experience in a building trade.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in maintaining and building structures, plants, and related systems.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools.

  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Submit a felony disclosure form and undergo a criminal background check.
  • Complete orientation and all mandatory training within required time frames.
  • Provide residential address and home telephone number.
  • Familiarize with employer policies, the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and other applicable regulations.
  • Undergo drug testing as required.
