WHO WE AREMason County Public Transportation Benefit Area, doing business as Mason Transit Authority (MTA), is a Public Transportation Benefit Area (PTBA) Authority, authorized in Chapter 36.57A RCW, located in Mason County, Washington. The service was approved by Mason County voters in November 1991, and MTA began providing public transportation in December 1992. The service area is all of Mason County, where road access is available, with connections to adjacent counties.
WHATWE DO
MTA transportation services consist of Fixed Route local and regional deviated fixed routes, Worker/Driver commuter service to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS) and Demand Response. These services are provided with diesel and hybrid 35' transit buses, cutaways, and vans. MTA is currently exploring alternatively fueled vehicles such as propane, hydrogen, and electric. Facilities include Johns Prairie maintenance base, the downtown Shelton Transit-Community Center, and a Belfair park and ride complex.
MTA supports a network of park and ride facilities that are located throughout the County by managing and providing routine maintenance for locations owned by Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), the County or others.

Mason Transit reserves the right to under fill this position with a Service Mechanic if we are not successful in identifying a candidate with sufficient qualifications to meet the requirements of the Mechanic classification. Those hired at the Service Mechanic classification will be given on-the-job training with the end goal of achieving Mechanic standing.
NATURE OF POSITIONMason Transit is recruiting for a highly skilled Journey Level Mechanic to join the Maintenance team. Under the direction of the Lead Mechanic, the Mechanic will demonstrate knowledge of all mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems. This position is required to diagnose and repair diesel, gas and alternative
-powered vehicles; maintain consistent safety practices; perform preventive maintenance and routine service of all MTA owned vehicles and equipment in accordance with established Agency standards. Keeps knowledge relevant by acquiring and maintaining Master Transit Bus Technician ASE Certification.
- Service Mechanic Salary Range - $30.71 - $ 34.12 per hour, Non-Exempt subject to FLSA requirements.
- Mechanic Salary Range - $35.40 - $39.33 per hour, Non-Exempt subject to FLSA requirements.
Comprehensive benefits package includes Mason Transit Authority offers an excellent benefit package which includes 95% employer paid Medical/Dental/Vision for employee and dependents, life, optional additional life, long-term disability, EAP, 11 paid holidays, vacation accruals based on years of service that begin at 3.69 hours per pay period (12 days per year), additional 1.69 hours of paid sick leave per pay period in addition to the required WA Paid Sick leave (total 12 days per year), two (2) 8 hour personal days per calendar year, three (3) days of bereavement leave per loss of immediate family member, Washington State Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) plan options, and optional Deferred Income (IRS 457 plans) retirement plans.
This position is eligible for longevity premium beginning at the 5 year employment mark with MTA, ASE Premium pay of .25 per hour for each MTA approved test passed, up to a total of $2.00 per hour with possession of ASE Master Certification (available upon completion of probationary period), a personal tool allowance amount of up to $800 reimbursement per calendar year after completion of six-month probation period, and a $250 safety shoe allowance included in the first pay period upon employment.
In addition, position is eligible per permitting circumstances inclement weather pay, meeting and training pay, and education assistance.
Employees assigned to this class must exercise independent judgment in work methods and procedures with little supervision required. Incumbents are part of the team effort which provides support and assistance to drivers and are responsible for providing excellent customer service, responding to and resolving customer concerns and questions in a timely and effective manner.

Lead Mechanic
- Perform all preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, evaluation and mechanical repairs as required on all Agency owned or service-contracted vehicles.
- Assist with parts ordering, processing invoices and maintaining inventory as necessary to accomplish the assigned tasks.
- Diagnose, maintain and repair of complex mechanical, electrical, PLC, hydraulic and diesel systems.
- Minor welding using gas or electrical methods.
- Maintain diagnostic tools and software updates.
- Complete maintenance forms and paperwork appropriately and accurately.
