The Role

Journeyman Industrial Electricians are an essential part of sawmill operations, ensuring that electrical equipment is in proper working condition and that mill production is maximized. This position will assist in planning layouts, installation, and repairing wiring of electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment. The qualified candidate will hold a Journeyman’s license or equivalent. 3rd and 4th‑year electrical apprentices will also be considered, depending on experience.

Responsibilities
  • Plan new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly hazardous and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.
  • Prepare sketches showing the location of wiring and equipment or follows diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before the completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring.
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble and install electrical conduit.
  • Pull wiring through conduit.
  • Splice wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, twisting or soldering wires, and applying tape or terminal caps.
  • Connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment.
  • Install control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit‑breaker panels.
  • Connect power cables to equipment, such as electric range or motor, and install grounding leads.
  • Test circuit continuity to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope.
  • Observe the functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and the need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • Repair faulty equipment or systems.
  • Cut and weld steel structural members.
  • Program PLC.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues or ways to improve mill functionality.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Work Environment

This role may operate in a professional office, log yards, and sawmill. While performing the duties of this job, employees will be exposed to machinery and moving mechanical parts. This position will often be exposed to noise, hazards, airborne particulates, and temperature changes.

Position Type/Travel/Schedule

This is a full‑time position, and overtime work may be required as projects or job duties demand.

Weekend Day Shift, Thursday - Sunday 4:00 AM - 2:30 PM.

  • This position requires the occasional use of basic hand tools.
  • This position requires standing, sitting, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping for extended periods.
