The person in this position is responsible for the continuing development and operation of the Court’s Community Service Program, and for the supervision of the defendant work crews. At mutually agreed-upon times that do not interfere with Community Service functions, the person in this position may be responsible for fingerprinting defendants in court and completing fingerprint documentation. This position also performs EHM (Electronic Home Monitoring) device hookups/removals and reports in coordination with WASPC guidelines.

This is a civilian, non-represented, permanent full-time position.

  • Identify and develop community service work sites and projects. Assists the City’s Public Works Department, Shelton Police Department, Code Enforcement, and citizen/business requests as needed.
  • Develops and maintains the defendant files and work schedules.
  • Perform community service interviews and complete paperwork when the court refers defendants. Determines who is eligible or ineligible for the program and refers the ineligible defendants back to the court within established guidelines.
  • Directly supervises specific work crews and projects to maintain safety and quality of work.
  • Establishes office procedures relating to community service and maintains accurate records of the participant’s work hours, failure to appear for work, compliance/non-compliance.
  • Ability to operate and maintain gas-powered tools and drive a 9-passenger van.
  • Prepares and files noncompliance reports for the court in a timely manner and testifies in community service-related hearings in court when needed.
  • Works pre-approved overtime as required to complete specific projects.
  • Fingerprints defendants in court and completes FP documentation as needed.
  • Order EHM equipment from WASPC and perform hookup/removal of equipment in accordance with the court order and WASPC guidelines.

    Ability to complete accurate mathematical calculations as required for the position.

    Ability to work within established guidelines with little direct supervision, while at the same time possessing the ability to accept direction from supervisors; ability to apply sound judgment and discretion in varied and often complex situations; ability to follow work rules and procedures; ability to lead and manage others effectively; and ability to maintain heavy workloads and handle stressful situations.

    Ability to work with diverse populations and effectively manage language barriers.

    Have or have the ability to obtain a valid Washington State Motor Vehicle License and First-Aid/CPR card.

    Ability to use a personal computer with Microsoft Office Products, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, learn fingerprinting techniques, and current knowledge or ability to learn state court computer programs.
