Special Education Instructional Health Assistant (Lebanon Junction Elementary School ) - District Wide

Job DescriptionResponsible for assisting teachers and schools with providing assistance in classroom instruction, student behavioral support, and supporting the health care needs of students during the school day in accordance with state laws and district regulations.
School placement and schedule are evaluated periodically and determined based on need. The initial placement for the school year is Lebanon Junction Elementary School, to provide individualized support for students who are Moderately to Severely Disabled (MSD).
Position DetailsHours: 6.25 hours per day (plus a 30‑minute unpaid lunch)
Contract Length: 183 days per year
- 170 student instructional days
- 4 holidays
- 7 planning days
- 2 extended days
Contract Adjustments: Contracted days will be prorated based on the start date.
Employment Status: Full‑time with benefits
Employment Type: 10‑month employee on the classified pay schedule
Qualifications & Requirements- Education: Must meet one of the following: 48 college semester hours, an Associate’s Degree, or a high school diploma plus a passing score on the Para educator Assessment Exam.
- Documentation: Candidates must provide proof of educational requirements to HR upon recommendation for hire.
- Citizenship: Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
Salary for the school year will be based on the Board‑approved salary schedule.
- Starting Pay (Step
0): $15.98/hour - Experienced Pay (Step 10): $19.67/hour
New hires may bring up to 10 years of comparable, full‑time, verified experience. The hired applicant is responsible for submitting the BCPS Verification of Experience Form to prior employers for completion and return to HR.
Payroll NoteWhile this is an hourly position, the salary is distributed via a year‑long contract over 10 months. You will receive 4 paychecks at the end of June. Salary Formula:
Hours per day × Hourly rate = Daily rate;
Daily rate × Contracted days = Annual salary;
Annual salary ÷ Remaining pay periods = Gross biweekly pay.
- Retirement: Membership in the Kentucky Public Pensions Authority (KPPA).
- Life Insurance: Total $50,000 (State: $20,000, BCPS: $30,000).
- Health Coverage: Comprehensive Health Insurance (employee premium based on plan selected) or Waiver HRA options.
- Time Off: Sick Leave, Personal Leave, and Emergency Leave (prorated). Unused Personal Leave rolls over to Sick Leave. Unused Sick Leave rolls over.
- Optional Benefits: Dental, Vision, Sick Leave Bank Membership, Bloodborne Pathogen/Hepatitis B immunization series, and additional voluntary coverage through American Fidelity.
