Job DescriptionBernheim Middle School is searching for a highly motivated, positive, and dedicated team member to join our Bruin family. This role is vital in supporting our certified teachers to provide high-quality instruction, monitor student progress, and enhance the overall educational experience for students with special needs.
As a Special Education Instructional Health Assistant, you will support students with diverse learning needs by providing academic, behavioral, and social-emotional assistance under the direction of certified teachers and special education staff.
Position DetailsHours: 6.5 hours per day (plus a 30‑minute unpaid lunch)
Contract Length: 183 days per year (170 instructional days, 4 holidays, 7 planning days, 2 extended days).
Contract Adjustments: Contracted days will be prorated based on the start date.
Employment Status: Full‑time with benefits.
Employment Type: 10‑month employee on the classified pay schedule.
Qualifications & Requirements- Education: Must meet one of the following: 48 college semester hours; an Associate’s Degree; or a high school diploma plus a passing score on the Para educator Assessment Exam.
- Documentation: Candidates must provide proof of educational requirements to HR upon recommendation for hire.
Salary for the 2026‑2027 school year will be based on the Board‑approved salary schedule.
2025‑2026 Pay Scale:
- Starting Pay (Step
0): $15.98/hour - Experienced Pay (Step 10): $19.67/hour
New hires may bring up to 10 years of comparable, full‑time, verified experience. The hired applicant is responsible for submitting the BCPS Verification of Experience Form to prior employers for completion and return to HR.
