Special Education Instructional Health Assistant (2026-27) – Roby Elementary

Job DescriptionRoby Elementary is looking for a Special Education Instructional Health Assistant. In this position you will assist students with special education services within a highly structured resource classroom and in the general education classroom. You will collaborate with teachers and instructional assistants as part of a high‑functioning team. At times you may provide health‑care needs of students during the school day, including toileting assistance, in accordance with state laws and district regulations.
You must commit to a positive school culture where all students are cared for and provided the supports to ensure growth.
Hours: 6.5 hours per day (plus a 30‑minute unpaid lunch)
Contract Length: 183 days per year (170 instructional days, 4 holidays, 7 planning days, 2 extended days)
Contract Adjustments: Contracted days will be prorated based on start date
Employment Status: Full‑time with benefits
Employment Type: 10‑month employee on the classified pay schedule
Qualifications & Requirements- Education: Must meet one of the following: 48 college semester hours, an associate’s degree, or high school diploma plus a passing score on the Para educator Assessment Exam.
- Documentation: Provide proof of educational requirements to HR upon recommendation for hire.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
Pay Scale (2026‑2027):
- Starting Pay (Step
0): $16.46/hour - Experienced Pay (Step 10): $20.26/hour
New hires may bring up to 10 years of comparable, full‑time, verified experience. The hired applicant is responsible for submitting the BCPS Verification of Experience Form to prior employers for completion and return to HR.
Payroll NoteSalary is distributed via a year‑long contract over 10 months. You will receive four paychecks at the end of June. Salary formula:
Hours per day × Hourly rate = Daily rate;
Daily rate × Contracted days = Annual salary;
Annual salary ÷ Remaining pay periods = Gross biweekly pay.
- Retirement: Membership in the Kentucky Public Pensions Authority (KPPA).
- Life Insurance: Total $50,000 (free to staff) – $20,000 paid by the State of Kentucky, $30,000 paid by BCPS.
- Health Coverage: Comprehensive Health Insurance (employee premium varies by selected plan) or Waiver HRA options.
- Time Off: Sick Leave, Personal Leave, and Emergency Leave (prorated). Unused Personal Leave rolls over to Sick Leave. Unused Sick Leave rolls over.
- Optional Benefits: Dental, Vision, Sick Leave Bank Membership, Bloodborne Pathogen/Hepatitis B (3‑dose immunization series), and additional voluntary coverage through American Fidelity.
