Position Details

Hours: 6.5 hours per day (plus a 30‑minute unpaid lunch)

Contract Length:
146 days per year

Contract Adjustments: Contracted days will be prorated based on the start date

Employment Status: Full‑time with benefits

Employment Type: 10‑month employee on the classified pay schedule

This position is for an instructional assistant in the preschool classroom. Assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups; monitor and report student progress.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Must meet one of the following:
  • 48 college semester hours
  • An Associate’s Degree
  • High school diploma plus a passing score on the Para educator Assessment Exam.
• Documentation: Candidates must provide proof of educational requirements to HR upon recommendation for hire.

Compensation & Experience Credit

Salary for the 2026‑2027 school year will be based on Board approved salary schedule.

2025‑2026 Pay Scale

• Starting Pay (Step
  0): $15.98/hour
• Experienced Pay (Step 10): $19.67/hour

We value experience! Previous experience working with students, intervention systems, and small‑group instruction is strongly desired. New hires may bring up to 10 years of comparable, full‑time, verified experience.

• The hired applicant is responsible for submitting the BCPS Verification of Experience Form to prior employers for completion and return to HR.

Payroll

Note:

While this is an hourly position, the salary is distributed via a year‑long contract over 10 months. You will receive 4 paychecks at the end of June.

Salary Formula: Hours per day × Hourly rate = Daily rate;
Daily rate × Contracted days = Annual salary;
Annual salary ÷ Remaining pay periods = Gross biweekly pay.
