Special Education Instructional Health Assistant Freedom Elementary

Freedom is seeking a positive, nurturing, and motivated person to assist our students in learning. This person will be responsible for collaborating with general and special education teachers to support our students. Other responsibilities include motivating students, reteaching concepts, and guiding students in the resource and/or general education classroom setting. Students are cared for and provided the proper supports to ensure each student grows.

Position Details

Hours: 6.5 hours per day (plus a 30-minute unpaid lunch)

Contract Length: 183 days per year

• 170 student instructional days
• 4 holidays
• 7 planning days
• 2 extended days

Contract Adjustments: Contracted days will be prorated based on the start date

Employment Status: Full-time with benefits

Employment Type: 10-month employee on the classified salary schedule.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Must meet one of the following:
• 48 college semester hours
• An Associate's Degree OR
• High school diploma plus a passing score on the Para educator Assessment Exam.
• Documentation: Candidates must provide proof of educational requirements to HR upon recommendation for hire.

Compensation & Experience Credit

Step 10: $20.26

We value experience! Previous experience working with students, intervention systems, and small-group instruction is strongly desired.

• Experience Credit:
  New employees may transfer up to 10 years of comparable, full-time, verified experience.

  It is the employee's responsibility to submit the BCPS Verification of Experience form to previous employers.

Payroll Note: While this is an hourly position, the salary is distributed via a year-long contract over 10 months. You will receive 4 paychecks at the end of June.

Salary Formula: Hours per day × Hourly rate = Daily rate Daily rate × Contracted days = Annual salary. Annual salary ÷ Remaining pay periods = Gross biweekly pay
