Overview
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) provides assessment, management and outcome evaluation for patients in inpatient and outpatient settings. The APRN educates patients, families, professional nurses and staff; serves as a liaison between patient, family and UofL Physicians staff; and participates in clinical research. The APRN demonstrates advanced medical and nursing knowledge, clinical and technical competency, sound clinical judgment, professionalism in communication, timely and compliant documentation, and ongoing professional development and competency validation.
Responsibilities- Assesses the physical and psychosocial status of clients by means of interview, health history, physical examination and diagnostic studies for both inpatient and outpatient services.
- Recognizes deviations from normal in the physical assessment and collaborates with a physician to formulate treatment plans and follow-up.
- Manage specialty clinic
- Writes prescriptions for medications, blood tests, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies and therapeutic measures.
- Requests written consultation from physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate and quality patient care.
- Interprets and evaluates findings of studies/tests.
- Relays appropriate information regarding patient care to the collaborating physician.
- Evaluates the quality of care provided and recommends changes for improvement.
- Initiates actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans aligned with the patient s continuing healthcare needs.
- Participates in multidisciplinary conferences to ensure appropriate, quality care.
- Provides symptom management for side effects related to oncologic treatment.
- Assist with admissions; works both collaboratively and independently.
- Maintains oversight of survivorship program and survivorship clinic.
- Shares clinical expertise with professional and support personnel.
- Documents and reports care in an accurate, timely manner; collaborates with other health disciplines to ensure continuity and quality of care.
- Promotes evidence-based nursing practice/research by participating in clinical research and leading efforts in scientific inquiry.
- Varied schedule; mutually agreed upon call schedule; assist in the operating room when necessary.
- Maintains professional certification in the specialty area; attends and participates in educational conferences.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Master of Nursing degree from an accredited institution.
- Current licensure in the state of Kentucky as an APRN.
- National certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner, Emergency Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
- Current DEA certificate without restriction
- Current BLS
- ACLS Certified

- Proficiency with required clinical and administrative software as needed for this role.
