Your role:
As a Regional Web Lineup Editor, your responsibilities will include identifying story ideas, writing and editing news content, and ensuring its publication primarily on the Radio-Canada Estrie website, as well as on other digital distribution platforms such as the mobile app, website, newsletter, social media, and others. The successful candidate will report to the Senior Manager of News and Programming and must comply with CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
This is an evening web position, scheduled from 12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. The schedule may vary depending on production needs.
Responsibilities- Monitor regional, national, and international news from various information sources.
- Research, gather, analyze, verify, and select reports and news elements for news bulletins.
- Monitor national news across the network that may have an impact on the region; identify sources and verify facts.
- Participate in daily coverage planning meetings and meetings related to special events; propose story ideas and collaborate with colleagues on story angles; develop the rundown (layout) of news bulletins.
- Maintain a network of contacts and sources.
- Select audio and visual clips and adapt content from these clips or reports into various formats for news bulletins.
- Define the editorial angle of news coverage; write scripts, headlines, and story leads in accordance with the specific style of the platform; prepare live hits with reporters in the field.
- Monitor the evolution of news based on broadcast deadlines and update bulletins accordingly.
- Review reports with journalists prior to broadcast (vetting) and request corrections when necessary.
- Define the rundown (layout) of the news bulletin; for digital platforms, ensure each story includes all required textual (titles, headlines, etc.), audiovisual, and audio elements.
- For television, supervise the content of the newscast during broadcast; for radio, supervise the on-air broadcast; in the control room, provide direction and exchange information with the production team; during broadcast, make decisions to modify the rundown as news developments require.
- Notify the newsroom manager or website manager of any event that may warrant a special bulletin or special program.
- After broadcast, follow up as required with journalists and management; re-listen to the broadcast bulletin when necessary.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Five (5) years of experience in journalism or equivalent
- Broad general knowledge
- In-depth knowledge of current affairs and regional realities
- Excellent command of the working language:
French - Strong knowledge of the other official language is an asset
- Mastery of media-specific communication techniques
- Very good understanding of newsroom logistics
- Knowledge of production techniques
- Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices
- Theory test related to the position
