Nature of the work

The position of financial analyst encompasses responsibility for the preparation and analysis of the budget and financial reports, development, coordination and control of accounting systems, methods, procedures and programs pertaining, among others, to administrative organization and operations, communication structures, data processing and the rational use of school board financial resources.

Description of tasks
  • Evaluates the financial needs of the school board
  • Gathers information from school and service administrators and identifies potential problem areas
  • Designs, develops, and recommends possible solutions to problems identified
  • Coordinates, implements, and updates government measures
  • Ensures compliance with deadlines set by the ministry
  • Plans and organizes training and professional development sessions intended for administrators and support staff
  • Analyzes financial results
  • Participates in the development of the budget
  • Prepares, analyzes, and distributes monthly budget monitoring reports
  • Carries out month-end and year-end financial analyses
  • Prepares audit files
  • Participates in the development and application of accounting standards and procedures and ensures compliance
  • May be called upon to conduct research or to provide advice on the application of budgetary rules, laws, and regulations
  • Provides advise to the school-based stakeholders
  • Provides advice and support to the management staff of services and educational institutions and plans, coordinates, distributes, and oversees work of support staff
Qualifications required
  • A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate specialty, notably in accounting
  • Three years of relevant experience
  • Member of the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) and have experience in the public and para-governmental sector would be assets.
Other requirements
  • Fluent in French and English
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a customer service mindset
  • Priority management and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize data
  • Have access to a vehicle to travel within the ETSB territory
  • Advance knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
