GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is dedicated to delivering a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system that keeps Wyoming moving. We are currently seeking a full-time Engineer II to join our team in Sheridan, Wyoming. In this role, you will play a vital part in the success of highway projects from start to finish-contributing to planning, design, construction, and final contract completion under the guidance of the Resident Engineer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Issues, reviews, comments, and revised plan sets.

* Reviews and approves or rejects project submittals/permits.

* Reviews and updates forms and documentation procedures regarding construction activities and pay quantities.

* Inspects and assures projects/facilities are completed according to plans, specifications, design criteria, and budgetary constraints.

* Compiles and submits engineering recommendations and summaries for the design of various projects/facilities with varying levels of complexity.

* Conducts extensive research on existing and evolving technologies.

* Provides technical guidance, advice, and oversight.

* Works in direct contact with contractors and subcontractors daily to manage projects under construction.

* Deals with landowners, traveling public, and local, county, state, and federal government entities in the same context.

* Performs field inspections, laboratory testing, materials analysis, and quality control.

* Develops engineering models, conducts studies, makes cost estimates, and submits reports, summaries, and other required documentation.

* Reviews and evaluates the work of assigned engineering technicians.

* Performs inspections and testing to ensure the contractor is constructing the project according to plans, specifications, etc.

* Provides the contractor with the necessary information to construct a project (showing a project and interpreting plans).

* Calculates and documents quantities for payment to the contractor.

* Examines and verifies numeric data and specifications on source documents by recalculating computations using geometry or trigonometry.

* Resolves geometric and trigonometric problems encountered during the process of making detailed engineering drawings.

* Review construction plans and verify that these are in accordance with designated specifications and other requirements.

* Conducts field engineering surveys, including reading a level, operating a total station, GPS, and making decisions to solve problems.

* Checks and verifies the accuracy of detailed drawings in projects and makes corrections in drawings if necessary.

* Designs preliminary work, calculating land areas, earth forms, circular curves, material quantities, and other qualitative measurements using geometric and trigonometric computations.

* Trains other personnel in engineering and surveying, and proper fieldwork documentation techniques.

* Coordinates with the contractor, other agencies, and the public when a project impacts them

* Oversees moderate to major construction projects by documenting pay quantities, directing the work schedule of subordinates, and working with a contractor for quality control
