Onsite Sheridan, Wyoming. Nestled at the foothills of the Big Horn Mountains in northern Wyoming, you will find spectacular scenery and outdoor activities. Responsible for maintaining the integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality of patient health information through the functions of documentation processing and release of information. Ensures medical records are complete, compliant, and available in accordance with regulatory and organizational requirements.
Essential Job Functions- Ensures patient documentation is accurate and complete.
- Ensures loose documentation is entered into the electronic medical record.
- Alerts appropriate personnel of incorrect documentation.
- Files birth certificate information with Vital Statistics.
- Processes requests for protected health information from patients, providers, payers, attorneys and other authorized entities.
- Ensures disclosures comply with HIPAA, state laws, and hospital policies.
- Responds to requests within required turnaround times.
- Maintains hospital requirements, policies, and standards on confidentiality.
- Monitors and responds to internal and external communications.
- Communicates with others respectfully and professionally.
- Assists in special projects.
- Actively participates in process improvement activities.
- Willingly accepts additional assignments.
- Keeps workspace in a neat and orderly manner.
- High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), required.
- Medical terminology, preferred.
- Anatomy/physiology, preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including English usage, grammar, punctuation and style.
- Ability to operate designated equipment as specified including computer keyboarding.
- Basic clerical training, including basic filing and EMR indexing procedures (both numerically and alphabetically).
- Ability to work under pressure with time constraints.
- Excellent eye, hand and auditory coordination.
- Basic knowledge of medical record content and sequence.
- Ability to function independently with minimal direction.
- Trainee is acceptable provided the individual meets the established work standards within 8 weeks of completion of the mandatory training program for this job.
Possible exposure to blood and/or body fluids / infectious disease / hazardous waste requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Exposure to odorous chemicals / specimens and Latex products.
