Contract Systems Administrator – Infrastructure & Server Operations
Location: Sheridan, WY (onsite initially, remote flexibility thereafter)
Position OverviewSheridan Memorial is seeking an experienced Systems Administrator to support core infrastructure, server operations, and architecture stabilization efforts within a complex healthcare environment. This resource will serve as a hands-on technical contributor responsible for supporting and optimizing the organization’s virtual and physical server environment, domain management, and overall infrastructure operations.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable operating independently, partnering closely with internal IT leadership, and serving as a key “boots on the ground” resource during the initial engagement period. This role will require onsite presence upfront to gain familiarity with the environment and architecture, with the potential for a hybrid or remote model thereafter.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and support physical and virtual server infrastructure
- Administer Windows Server environments and Active Directory/domain services
- Support VMware or comparable virtualization platforms
- Assist with infrastructure architecture assessment, documentation, and stabilization efforts
- Perform server maintenance, patching, upgrades, and performance tuning
- Troubleshoot infrastructure, server, storage, and networking issues
- Partner with internal IT staff to understand current-state architecture and operational gaps
- Assist with infrastructure planning, optimization, and operational best practices
- Support backup, disaster recovery, and system monitoring processes
- Collaborate with vendors and managed service providers as needed
- Maintain technical documentation and knowledge transfer materials
- 5+ years of Systems Administration experience in enterprise environments
- Strong experience with:
- Windows Server administration
- Active Directory and domain management
- VMware or equivalent virtualization technologies
- Physical and virtual infrastructure support
- Experience troubleshooting infrastructure and server-related issues independently
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Ability to work onsite initially in Sheridan, WY
- Healthcare industry experience strongly preferred
- Experience supporting rural healthcare or lean IT environments
- Familiarity with networking infrastructure and managed services environments
- Experience working alongside outsourced or hybrid IT support models
- 6-month contract engagement with potential extension
- Onsite presence expected initially to support environment assessment and operational transition
- Opportunity for remote flexibility after onboarding and environment stabilization
