Position: GUNSMITH INTERN

As a Gunsmith Intern at Weatherby, you'll gain hands‑on experience in firearm assembly, disassembly, inspection, refinishing, and repair projects. This internship provides exposure to custom rifles and shotguns while developing technical skills in a manufacturing environment focused on quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

The Gunsmith Intern supports the Custom Shop and Repair team in building, repairing, refinishing, and preparing Weatherby firearms to factory specifications. This includes assisting with firearm disassembly and reassembly, preparing firearms for Cerakote and cosmetic work, breaking down firearms for parts recovery, and preparing designated firearms for destruction. The intern will also assist with building complete rifles and shotguns from approved components while learning proper gunsmithing techniques, firearm safety procedures, and quality standards.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Assist with disassembling and reassembling rifles and shotguns.
  • Help prepare firearms designated for destruction and assist with parts recovery and organization.
  • Assist in building complete rifles and shotguns from approved components and assemblies.
  • Support firearm refinishing projects by disassembling firearms for Cerakote application and reassembling completed firearms to ensure proper function and quality standards.
  • Assist with firearm inspections, cleaning, polishing, and finishing operations.
  • Help prepare firearms for shows, demonstrations, customer events, and internal projects.
  • Learn and assist with firearm function checks, safety inspections, and quality verification processes.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and a safe, organized workspace.
  • Support special projects and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Gunsmithing, Manufacturing, Machining, Engineering Technology, or related program preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn technical skills.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools and learn basic shop equipment operation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively within a team environment.
  • Effective communication and time management skills.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Complete assigned projects and training activities on schedule.
  • Follow all firearm safety, quality, and workplace safety requirements.
  • Demonstrate continuous learning and skill development throughout the internship.
