Registered Nurse; Mental Health

Position: Registered Nurse (Mental Health)
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Provide competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients.

* Assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation

* Provide patient-centered and recovery-oriented care and maintain self-awareness while caring for patients living with Mental Health conditions.

* Facilitate warm hand-offs, telemental health care, and nurse-led psycho educational groups; use therapeutic communication techniques, practice de-escalation techniques, utilize recovery-oriented language, and provide Veterans, their family members, and/or significant others with education regarding their illness, medications, and treatment plan.

* Participate in care coordination, liaising with Inpatient Mental Health Units to facilitate continuity of care, Mental Health interdisciplinary treatment team huddles and meetings and respond to psychiatric and medical emergencies as directed.

* Report and address safety concerns, document nursing triage assessments, risk screens, clinical reminders, and patient plan of care, according to facility policy.

* Maintain professional boundaries to protect patient vulnerabilities and act in the best interest of the patient.

* Foster a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals.

* Support colleagues through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality nursing care.

* Question clinical practices for the purpose of providing evidence-based care.

Pay:
Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards

Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.

This position is authorized for telework-situational (ad-hoc) AND has NOT been authorized as remote. (

NOTE:

The Veterans Health Administration, including VISN 19 and the Sheridan VA Health Care System, will comply fully with the intention and instructions contained in the "Return to Office" Executive Order. This position will likely be eligible to telework on a limited Ad-Hoc basis only)
