Job Summary

The Hospitalist Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible for medical consultation, follow‑ups, routine patient care, and performing minor office procedures in an office setting under physician supervision. The role requires diagnosing and managing common acute and stable chronic diseases, ordering and interpreting tests, prescribing therapies, performing physical examinations, and documenting care. The PA/NP will participate in performance improvement activities, provide clinic administrative support, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Adheres to organizational policies and professional guidelines such as those defined by the Wyoming State Board of Medicine.
  • Collaborates professionally with other departments to provide patient‑centered care.
  • Demonstrates effective communication, conflict resolution, team building, and leadership skills.

Quality
  • Performs comprehensive patient assessments, including head‑to‑toe examinations and reassessments as per policy.
  • Develops and revises individualized plans of care based on treatment response.
  • Assesses and manages pain with appropriate techniques and educates patients/families.
  • Provides counseling and education services.
  • Maintains documentation that meets current standards and policies.
  • Performs services within scope of practice and consults other departments when needed.
  • Reports significant events such as near‑misses, adverse events, complaints, and safety issues promptly.
  • Initiates and completes detailed patient assessments including history, physical exam, and diagnostic orders.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary rounds and makes recommendations.
  • Acts as a liaison between patients, families, physicians, and the Big Horn Health Network.
  • Assesses and selects appropriate medication, treatment, and consultation based on data analysis.
  • Assists in successful implementation of coding and reimbursement programs for office procedures.
Service
  • Treats patients and families with respect and dignity.
  • Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs.
  • Functions as liaison among patients, families, physicians, other providers, and administration.
  • Maintains strong working relationships within departments and with other units.
  • Assists in implementation of coding and reimbursement improvement programs.
  • Demonstrates adaptability, organization, and effective functioning under stress.
Position Qualifications Education / Experience / License and Certifications Physician Assistant Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and certification.
  • Licensed as a Physician Assistant in Wyoming.
  • NCCPA certification required.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Current ACLS certification required.
Nurse Practitioner Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program;
    Master’s degree required.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Current ACLS certification required.
  • Wyoming Nurse Practitioner license required.
  • American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Adult Geriatric Acute Care NP (AGACP‑BC) certification required, or
  • American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) Acute Care NP (ACNPC‑AG) certification required, or
  • American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) Advanced Practice RN certification, and Wyoming Advanced Practice RN license required.
Additional Skills
  • Effective communication in English, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in additional languages desirable.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Participation in continuing education, departmental staff meetings, and staying current with clinical practice guidelines.
  • Staying abreast of organizational policies and procedures.
Other Requirements
  • Possible exposure to blood or body fluids, infectious disease, hazardous waste, odorous chemicals, specimens, and latex products; use of appropriate personal protective equipment required.
  • Pre‑employment drug and alcohol screening required.
