Cath Lab IR Technologist

Provide direct procedural care for patients in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab. Communicate continuously with the physician and Cath/IR Lab staff about patient condition. Assist the physician during invasive and noninvasive procedures through monitoring and/or scrubbing procedures. Operate all equipment safely and correctly. Perform imaging procedures and uphold patient safety protocols. Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality (CQI) improvement activities of the Cardiac Cath/IR Lab.

Support and maintain a culture of people, safety, service excellence, and quality, fiscal responsibility. Serve as a resource for radiation safety for the department. May work in other units as oriented/assigned.

• Assist other ancillary departments with procedural processes requiring subject‑matter expert care
• Establish and maintain effective communication and good working relationships with coworkers for the patient’s benefit, through email, SBAR, and daily interaction

• Approach patient and family in a kind, gentle manner, treating them with respect and dignity, and identify and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs
• Handle emergency situations during low, moderate, and high risk procedures
• Ensure that patient has understanding pre, intra and post‑operative processes, and education performed pre‑operatively for recovery

• Respond to all call‑back notifications within 5 minutes, and assume patient care within 30 minutes of notification
• Check LMP prior to procedure for all women of childbearing years
• Ensure proper function/operation of radiological equipment and radiation safety of the team and patients; notify appropriate personnel if processes are contaminated or unsafe
• Identify situations that put patient at increased risk for cardiac arrest, and modify processes to keep patients hemodynamic status stable
• Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health‑care errors
• Ensure use of universal protocol on all procedures, and maintain aseptic technique where necessary
• Practice safe administration of medications (8 rights) within the critical care setting based on age, weight, labs and medical condition of patient, and individualize plan of administration
• Act as subject‑matter expert regarding hematoma management post‑procedure for hospital staff
• Adhere to infection control policies, including PPE use

• Respect patient confidentiality and right to privacy
• Ensure documentation is correct for procedural processes
• Actively participate in assigned or volunteer continuous performance improvement (CQI) activities
• Report significant events such as near misses, adverse events, patient/family complaints, and any situation that affects safe delivery of patient‑centered care in a timely manner
• Proactively round with team members and identify opportunities for improvement
• Ensure proper environmental conditions are met for surgical/radiological equipment and supplies safety (humidity, temperature)
