Company Description

Dominion Lending Centres Maximal Mortgages is a franchise brokerage founded by a close-knit team of industry professionals who have worked together for over a decade. Based on values of trust, respect, transparency, integrity, and education, the brokerage fosters a culture that feels more like family than a traditional mortgage office. Team members benefit from access to a wide range of mortgage lenders, competitive rate options, leading training programs, and cutting-edge industry technologies.

The organization is committed to delivering an exceptional client experience while upholding the highest industry standards. Maximal Mortgages welcomes both experienced mortgage professionals seeking a supportive environment and clients looking for informed, reliable mortgage advice. This is a business built on honesty, trust, and genuine care for every client who walks through the door. The broker handles the client relationships personally and takes that responsibility seriously.

The business has grown to a point that the time has come to bring in someone who can own the underwriting & fulfillment side, so that standard of care can be maintained on the front end without anything slipping at the back. You will work with a broker who treats clients like people, not files. That culture carries through everything.

Clients here feel looked after, not processed. If you have spent time in environments where the focus was volume at the expense of care, this will feel different. The values are clear, and the work matters to the people doing it.

Role Description

The Senior Mortgage Underwriter is a full-time, hybrid position with the main office located in Sherwood Park, AB. This role is responsible for assessing and underwriting residential mortgage applications, analyzing borrower profiles, creditworthiness, collateral, and risk factors to ensure compliance with lender and regulatory guidelines. The Senior Mortgage Underwriter will review supporting documentation, validate information, and provide clear decisions and conditions, working closely with the lead broker and lenders to structure suitable mortgage solutions.

Day-to-day tasks include communicating with lead broker and external partners, maintaining detailed and accurate records, and supporting process improvements to enhance efficiency and client service. The right person for this role is calm when things get busy, organized enough that nothing falls through without a system to catch it, and genuinely warm with clients without being prompted to be. They follow up without being asked, keep the broker informed, and treat every client interaction as a reflection of their own professional standard.

They work well with moderate onboarding support and can find their footing without needing constant direction once they understand how things run. This role is not right for someone who can do the technical work but runs cold with clients. Underwriting here is not a back-office function disconnected from the client experience. This person interacts with clients directly, and how they handle that matters as much as how they handle the file.

If your natural style is formal to the point of cold, or if you prefer to stay heads-down without much client contact, this is not the right fit. The broker's clients expect to feel cared about. That expectation does not change when the broker hands the file to someone else.

Qualifications
  • Holds a valid Mortgage Agent Licence in the Province of Alberta
  • Strong expertise in the Mortgage Industry, including current market trends, products, and regulatory requirements
  • Advanced skills in Mortgage Underwriting, with proven experience assessing complex files and risk profiles
  • In-depth knowledge of Mortgages, including conventional, insured, alternative, and private lending solutions
  • Well-developed Analytical Skills, with the ability to interpret financial statements, credit reports, and property appraisals
  • Several years of experience in senior or complex mortgage underwriting roles with Canadian lenders or brokerages
  • Proficiency with mortgage underwriting and CRM systems, as well as standard office software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain decisions and requirements clearly to diverse stakeholders
  • High attention to detail, sound judgment, and commitment to ethical, compliant underwriting practices
  • Ability to work effectively and manage multiple files and deadlines
