OVERVIEW

Vertex is currently accepting applications for a full‑time Site Closure Coordinator with a focus on reclamation to join our Environmental Team in Sherwood Park, Alberta. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing upstream oil and gas projects in accordance with Vertex guidelines and project scopes. This role will focus on reclamation and site‑closure activities. This individual will play a critical role in the execution of all aspects of the project while delivering a cost‑effective approach that exceeds our client’s expectations.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Diploma or higher education related to reclamation, environmental sciences, biology or other related disciplines
  • Minimum 4 to 7 years of environmental work experience in detailed site assessments, reclamation and site closure.
  • Proven ability to manage large‑scale reclamation and site closure programs, with strong organizational, coordination, and time‑management skills in a fast‑paced environment. Demonstrate capacity to successfully oversee complex projects, balance competing priorities, allocate resources effectively, and support clients in achieving their ultimate objective of regulatory closure.
  • Extensive understanding and experience with reclamation and site closure programs in Alberta with experience in Saskatchewan and British Columbia considered an asset.
  • Ability to review, approve, and sign off on Detailed Site Assessments (DSAs) and Reclamation Assessments, and Schedule B reports in Alberta; experience in Saskatchewan and British Columbia (Schedule B Reports) considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Alberta's reclamation regulatory framework, including the 2010 Reclamation Criteria for Wellsites and Associated Facilities and Specified Enactment Direction 002:
    Application Submission Requirements and Guidance for Reclamation Certificates for Well Sites and Associated Facilities, to guide reclamation activities, ensure regulatory compliance, and support successful site closure outcomes.
  • Extensive experience with reclamation applications in One Stop, including related submissions, dispositions, dead‑ending, supplemental information requests, Statements of Concern, and application cancellations.
  • Experience communicating with landowners, occupants, regulatory agencies, government departments, municipalities, Indigenous communities, and industry stakeholders—including the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) and Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (EPA)—to address concerns, obtain approvals, and achieve reclamation and site closure objectives.
  • Experience ensuring regulatory compliance throughout Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), remediation programs, Records of Site Condition (RoSCs), and DSAs, including adherence to applicable provincial legislation, guidelines, and reclamation criteria.
  • Strong knowledge of Saskatchewan's reclamation regulatory framework, including Directives PNG
    016 and PNG
    018, to guide reclamation activities, ensure regulatory compliance, and support successful site closure outcomes is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Reclamation Applications and the Canadian Environmental Quality Guidelines (CEQGs) as they apply to Indigenous Oil and Gas Canada (IOGC) site closure and reclamation programs is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge, familiarity to review and sign off on Surface Lease Environmental Audits is considered an asset.
