To support environmental project delivery by conducting high-quality fieldwork, data collection, analysis, and reporting while developing technical competency, safety leadership, and strong foundational skills aligned with BAD service group standards and MEMS’ values.

Please note this position could be based out of our offices in Sherwood Park or Grande Prairie.

Key Responsibilities
1) Field Execution & Technical Support
  • Support the planning, organization, and execution of field programs for Phase I and Phase II ESAs, remediation projects, and contaminant hydrogeology programs.
  • Conduct groundwater, soil, and vapour monitoring and sampling at industrial, commercial, and brownfield sites.
  • Carry out field documentation, cost tracking, and contractor oversight.
  • Ensure all field work is performed safely, in compliance with MEMS systems, applicable regulations, and client requirements.
2) Data Management, Analysis & Reporting
  • Compile and organize field data, photographs, and field notes.
  • Support interpretation of laboratory analytical results under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Contribute to preparation of technical documents including ESA reports, remediation summaries, and site management plans.
3) Project Delivery Support
  • Assist in developing work plans, proposals, and cost estimates using a risk‑based approach.
  • Execute assigned tasks in alignment with project scope, timelines, and deliverable expectations.
  • Escalate issues, risks, or unusual field conditions promptly to senior staff or the Client Team Lead.
4) Learning, Mentorship & Skill Development
  • Proactively seek mentorship and coaching from Environmental Scientists, Field Leads, and senior technical staff.
  • Build technical competency toward meeting requirements for vetting as an Environmental Scientist – Field Lead.
  • Participate in training, safety programs, and knowledge-sharing opportunities within the BAD service group.
  • Work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams, contractors, and field personnel.
  • Maintain professional conduct and communication with clients, landowners, and regulatory personnel when onsite.
  • Contribute to a positive team culture aligned with MEMS’ core values.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geology, hydrogeology, engineering, or closely related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 1–2 years of experience in assessment and remediation (consulting experience preferred).
  • Eligibility for a relevant professional association.
  • Must meet client access requirements, which may include drug/alcohol testing and fitness assessments.
Other Knowledge & Skills
  • Knowledge of environmental site assessment processes and industry best practices.
  • Understanding of Alberta Tier 1 & 2 guidelines or equivalent provincial frameworks.
  • Awareness of upstream/downstream oil & gas, oil sands, and brownfield sectors.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or in teams.
  • Strong safety awareness and ability to meet project deadlines in dynamic conditions.
Working Conditions
  • Physical requirements include walking, standing, climbing, kneeling, lifting up to 30 kg, and repetitive movements.
  • Office environment during reporting phases with extended computer use.
  • Must adhere to all MEMS and client-specific safety requirements.
  • This position is expected to spend approximately 70% of work time at client sites, each trip lasting anywhere from 1 to 10 days. This individual may conduct assessments at industrial or commercial facilities, brownfield sites and/or greenfield sites in varying locations (remote to urban). In some cases, the field work may include carrying sampling equipment;
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computers and peripherals.
  • Sometimes requires long hours of work. Occasional interruptions outside work hours and travel to other locations are required.
