It Cybersecurity Specialist; Sysadmin​/Infosec

Summary

This position is being recruited under 10 USC §1599f into the Cyber Excepted Service and does not convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service. It is necessary to carry out and support the mission of the US Cyber Command. The role is in the Professional Work Category at the Senior Work Level within the CES Occupational Structure and is located in DISA.

• Install, configure, and maintain servers, software, and essential IT infrastructure, focusing on data security and availability by managing daily backups and recovery systems.
• Continuously monitor system health, interpreting performance metrics and taking immediate corrective actions when needed; coordinate software and hardware upgrades with internal teams and external vendors.
• Ensure optimal design, deployment, and management of cloud resources across platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
• Oversee, provision, configure, and maintain cloud-based services, emphasizing scalability, resilience, and cost-effectiveness.
• Foster strong relationships with technology vendors to ensure top‑tier support and products; remain updated with the latest IT trends to identify and propose innovative solutions.

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Males born after 12‑31‑59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
• Need a favorable suitability review and security clearance (SSBI). Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
• Drug testing may be required.
• Shift work, recall/on‑call 24/7, and rotating shifts may be required.
• Incumbent may be required to complete Foundational and/or Residential Qualification requirements or future Cybersecurity Workforce qualification/credentialing requirements as defined by DoD 8140.
• Position may be designated as Mission Essential and may require relocation within the United States in times of emergency.
• May require a current DoD Top Secret clearance or higher (Secret, Top Secret, or Yankee White).
• Salary to be determined based on duty location after selection.

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below.

• Attention to Detail – experience reviewing IT-related work or data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with standards.
• Customer Service – experience maintaining relationships with customers and tailoring IT services to meet their needs.
• Oral Communication – briefing mid‑level management and IT staff on system status, projects, and operations, including communicating technical information to non‑technical audiences.
• Problem Solving – identifying alternatives to address complex IT issues by gathering and applying information from a variety of sources.

• At least one year of experience performing system administration, overseeing operating systems, ensuring robust security, and administering cloud‑based environments.
• Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining operating systems in alignment with an organization’s IT framework to meet critical business needs.
• Demonstrated attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem‑solving as described in the vacancy announcement.

There is no substitution of education for the qualifying experience at the GG‑13 grade level.
