Essential Functions- Coordinate the City’s Soak It Up Rain Garden and Native Landscaping Rebate program, including site inspections, meeting with customers, and processing applications and documentation.
- Conduct surface water education and outreach activities, including social media postings and website updates, coordinating the City’s Adopt‑A‑Drain and Storm Drain marking volunteer programs, attending regional meetings, and working on the Puget Sound Starts Here campaign.
- Participate in stormwater pollution source control programs, including coordination for the City’s Pollution Prevention Assistance Program and Source Control Program.
- Support stormwater facility inspection programs.
- Collect water quality samples and assist in water quality investigations.
- Work within the City’s asset management software systems, creating and managing Cityworks work orders.
- Provide field and office support for the Surface Water Utility.
- Participate and work effectively in an organization committed to advancing principles and practices of equity and anti‑racism.
- Knowledge of stormwater and surface water management principles.
- Knowledge of LID principles, stormwater education and outreach principals, stormwater pollution source control principles, and/or stormwater NPDES permit compliance is a plus.
- Knowledge of MS Word & Excel.
- Knowledge of graphic design programs, including Adobe products and Canva is a plus.
- Knowledge of Cityworks asset management software is a plus.
- Excellent written, communication, organizational and computer skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Minimum one year of college education in environmental science or studies, water resources, civil engineering, or similar subject(s) OR one year of relevant experience in storm and surface water management or a similar field.
- Experience in environmental communications and/or community engagement preferred.
- A valid state‑issued driver’s license (successful candidate will need to provide a driving abstract with an insurable record).
Office/indoor and outdoor environment; may travel from site to site; inclement weather conditions.
Physical ConditionsEssential and marginal functions may require walking, standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; heavy, moderate or light lifting and carrying up to 60 lb; bending; driving City vehicles.
Conditions of Employment- Establishment of employment authorization and identity at the time of hire. The City is not able to sponsor work visas.
- Prior to the start of employment, this position requires:
- A successful completion of reference checks, including at least one prior supervisor.
- A successful completion of a criminal background check.
- Possession of valid state‑issued driver’s license with successful results of pre‑employment check of driving record with an “acceptable” rating or better according to the City’s Using City Vehicles administrative policy.
- Employment is contingent upon successfully passing State/Federal pre‑employment background checks.
