Keeping Washington Clean and Evergreen. The Department of Ecology is hiring an Industrial Wastewater Permit Manager (Environmental Engineer
3) for the Water Quality Program, located in Shoreline, WA. Salary: $89,232.00 – $ annually, with a 5% premium for King County.
Full‑time, permanent position with a flexible/ hybrid work arrangement. First in‑office requirement: two days per week after the probationary period.
Responsibilities- Develop NPDES permits, State Waste Discharge permits, and accompanying fact sheets for industrial facilities in the Northwest region of Washington.
- Review engineering reports for ISGP and individual NPDES permits, analyze water‑quality monitoring data, and evaluate facility compliance.
- Conduct facility inspections, provide technical assistance, write inspection reports, and perform water‑quality sampling and data analysis.
- Investigate complaints, conduct compliance reviews, and support enforcement recommendations.
- Collaborate with internal staff to develop compliance or enforcement actions.
- Communicate technical issues in plain language to stakeholders and coordinate with the Ecology Communications team on media inquiries.
Required
- Professional Engineer registration in Washington or an equivalent state.
- Three (3) years of environmental engineering experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
Special Conditions
:
Must obtain Washington PE registration within six months if obtained from another jurisdiction.
Desired
- Experience developing wastewater discharge permits.
- Experience in wastewater or stormwater treatment and preparing engineering documents.
- Experience with Western Washington Hydrology Model or similar stormwater control design models.
- Experience in water‑quality sampling and monitoring data analysis.
