TheOpportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a Facilities Maintenance Specialist - Maintenance Mechanic 3 to join the Northwest Region Facilities department in Shoreline, WA. This journey-level position supports preventive and corrective maintenance programs by performing skilled work across multiple trades, including mechanical and electrical repairs, building retrofits, and facility system maintenance. The role is responsible for coordinating materials, completing required documentation, and ensuring job safety within established work parameters, while working independently or alongside other trades staff.
Work performed in this role supports safe and efficient facility operations that directly contribute to WSDOT’s mission to provide safe, reliable, and cost-effective transportation options for the public. The ideal candidate will demonstrate mechanical and facilities maintenance expertise, strong problem-solving skills, knowledge of building systems and equipment, and the ability to communicate effectively while working in a highly technical environment.

Standard business hours for this position are Tuesday
- Friday, 40 hours a week, but the incumbent may be expected to occasionally work scheduled and unscheduled overtime or be called in for emergency situations. Time may be split between the office, mechanical spaces, and field locations. This position may travel within the region on per-diem and stay out of town for overnight periods when necessary.
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Facilities Maintenance Specialist will:
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on building systems, including skilled mechanical and electrical repairs, building retrofits, and facility system maintenance.
- Inspect, test, troubleshoot, and perform preventive maintenance on plumbing, electrical, HVAC, fire, interior, and exterior systems and fixtures to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Conduct equipment checks, change filters, clean equipment, verify efficient operation, and document discrepancies and services performed.
- Operate a service vehicle to travel between multiple work sites and transport tools and materials needed to perform assigned duties.
- Receive and complete service requests, communicate with supervisors and customers, attend safety meetings, complete required training, and support daily maintenance operations.
- Handle operational support activities, including purchasing parts and supplies, maintaining records, entering work updates, and managing paperwork and scheduling in the Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) program.
- Organize and maintain work areas, vehicles, and equipment in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
- Perform landscape and grounds maintenance, including snow removal, debris clearing, drain maintenance, and operation of irrigation and grounds equipment.
