Position:
Special Education Para educator - Stages
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6.58 hours per day with a 30‑minute unpaid break (7.08 total hours per day)
Start Date: September 8, 2026
Pay: $28.05 per hour in accordance with the para educator labor agreement

- A high school diploma or GED plus one of the following:
- An AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree
- Two years of post‑secondary coursework (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) from an accredited institution applicable toward a bachelor's degree
- Passing score of 460 (or higher) on the Para Pro Assessment or a passing score on Para educator Online
- Excellent human‑relations skills when dealing with staff, students, and community
- Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small‑group situations
- Ability to work cooperatively in team settings and have patience in dealing with parents and students
- Health care experience or training may be required
- Ability to work with emotionally, physically and/or mentally impaired students
- Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions
- Ability to communicate effectively and concisely both orally and in writing
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos
- Ability to interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to perform basic mathematical computations and interpret data related to student performance
- Ability to operate a computer and knowledge of multiple software packages
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
- Paras will be required to undergo CPI training if needed; training will be arranged as required
- Instruct and support students in classrooms, other learning sites and community settings, helping them develop self‑advocacy skills and greater independence
- Monitor, evaluate and record classroom behaviors, problem‑solve and discuss expectations of appropriate behavior with students, initiate appropriate consequences for misbehavior, and provide positive feedback
- Assist in determining goals for students and participate in EBD or other extreme‑case programs, including restraining students consistent with individual student plans and district policy
- Meet with teachers to determine appropriate levels of student performance, needed modifications of instructional objectives and assignments; provide input regarding student needs and assist in implementing daily instructional plans
- Occasionally supervise students in modified learning centers, assist with assignments, monitor behavior, and present recommendations to teachers, support staff and administrators
- Assist students with personal hygiene, medical needs, toileting, diapering, lifting, writing, feeding, boarding and/or disembarking from buses
- Supervise students during lunch, hallways and field trips to ensure orderly conduct
- Administer, correct and grade worksheets and tests, record grades, assign work, and assume responsibility for small instructional groups or classrooms when teachers are absent
- Prepare classroom materials, file records, complete evaluation sheets, and prepare memos and letters for staff and parents
- Attend staff meetings to discuss academic, behavioral and vocational progress of students with appropriate staff, including teachers, psychologists, social workers, parents and employers in job‑setting situations
- Must be able to lift
- Other duties as necessary or assigned
Requires regular walking throughout a building, occasional lifting or moving up to 50 pounds with assistance or pushing up to 90 pounds, restraining students when needed, and ability to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
