Shoreview, Minnesota, a premier City in the north metro area of the twin cities seeks an experienced and talented financial professional for its next Assistant Finance Director. The Assistant Finance Director will help lead the Finance Department and ensure compliance with City standards as well as Federal and State requirements.

DUTIES INCLUDE:
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of GAAP and accounting within the governmental sector
  • Coordinate and prepare audit work papers, schedules and annual financial reports
  • Assist in the preparation of the City’s ACFR
  • Maintain City’s investment portfolio
  • Develop and refine accounting and internal control policies
  • Assist in the preparation of special assessments
  • Coordinate the preparation of all documents required for the issuance of the debt instruments
  • Provide assistance to the Finance Director and the City Manager during the budget process
  • Manage City's insurance and risk management program (property, casualty, workers’ comp)
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

  • Ability to understand complex accounting systems and processes
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply current municipal accounting practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of GAAP standards and GASB regulations
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures of public sector financial record keeping and reporting
  • Ability to interact with the public in a friendly, tactful manner
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate policies, practices and services of the Finance Department to fellow City employees and members
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance,or closely related field
  • Three years of increasingly responsible experience ingovernmentaccounting,government

    Finance, orgovernmentauditing
  • Two years supervisory experience
  • Two yearsofexperiencewithfinancial accounting software, spreadsheets and databases
  • Knowledge of GASB pronouncements
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel

Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in accounting, finance or closely related field
  • Additional government accounting experience
  • Additional supervisory experience
  • Experience with BS&A financial software
  • Experience with Open Gov budget Software
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO)
  • Five years of fund accounting experience
Hours:

Typically 8:00 a.m.

- 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday with occasional evening meetings.

Hiring salary range:

$110,302 - $121,617 annually DOQ, plus excellent benefits. This position is exempt from overtime pay. (2026 full salary range: $110,302 - $147,243)
