The Shorewood-Troy Public Library has an opening for a 19-hr part-time Children’s Services Assistant. Under the direct supervision of the Children’s Services Manager, this employee will be responsible for providing reference and readers’ advisory services, assisting patrons with library resources and aiding in planning and presenting programs.
Requirements for this Position- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively while engaging with children from birth to age 12 and their caregivers.
- Knowledge of children’s literature, library services, and digital resources offered.
- Commitment to inclusivity, diversity, equity, and accessibility.
- Ability to exercise tact, patience, and good judgment when interacting with the public and other staff members.
- Availability to work evenings and two Saturdays per month.
- Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing; ability to communicate in Spanish is desirable.
- Ability to work independently and productively.
- Collaborate with other team members to plan and conduct children’s programming, including story times, craft programs, and more!
- Work the Children’s Services Info Desk, providing reference and readers’ advisory services for children, caregivers, and educators.
- Creating monthly Take & Make craft kits.
- Accurately shelving materials alphabetically and numerically.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Associate’s Degree in Childhood Development, Education, or a similar field and/or an LTA with a focus on Children’s Services.
- At least one year of work experience involving working with children.
- Familiarity with Office apps such as Microsoft Office, Google Apps, and general technology.
The salary for the position is $16.50 an hour. Benefits include:
