Part Time Salary Range: $18.25 - $19.25 Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide instruction to youth ages 24 months – 17 years old teaching basic dance techniques. Assure that the environment and instruction is safe at all times for participants. Responsible for setup and breakdown of program equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Provides dance instruction to children teaching dance techniques.
  • Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
  • Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Conveys information on dance programs and schedules and as appropriate refers program participants and families to other programs.
  • Organizes, sets up and puts away needed class equipment.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children.
  • Must be a certified instructor or have a minimum 2 years of previous instruction or 3 years of dance lesson experience.
  • At least 16 years of age.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper dance techniques.
  • Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
