Position Title: Substitute Instructional Assistant – Special Education/Preschool
Department: Substitute Services
Reports To: Building Principal, Classroom Teacher, and District Substitute Specialist
Location: Show Low Unified School District
The Substitute Instructional Assistant – Special Education/Preschool supports classroom instruction in the absence of a regularly assigned paraprofessional. This position assists with student learning, behavior support, daily routines, and individual student needs, including those related to IEP goals and personal care.
Qualifications:High School Diploma or equivalent
Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
Three professional references (must include email addresses)
Copies of required documents must be uploaded at the time of application submission
Incomplete applications will be closed after 30 days
As Needed
Daily Assignment Compensation:
$14.70 per hour
Assist individual students or small groups in reinforcing instructional material or IEP goals
Support student learning through enrichment, remediation, or independent activities
Supervise student testing, grade work, and perform clerical tasks as assigned
Alert the classroom teacher to concerns regarding students’ behavior or progress
Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional ethics
Assist with student needs during lunch, snack, recess, and cleanup routines
Support students with personal hygiene and toileting needs, including diapering
Operate and maintain classroom equipment and assistive technology
Provide supervision and support in various school settings
Refer all parent inquiries to the classroom teacher immediately
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising staff or administration
Frequent standing, sitting, bending, and moving across campus
Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; occasionally up to 25 pounds
Visual abilities required: close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and focus adjustment
Typical school environment with moderate noise levels
May require working with students with significant physical or behavioral needs
