Junior High Social Studies Teacher
The Junior High Social Studies Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, standards-aligned instruction in social studies content areas including history, geography, civics, and economics. The teacher will foster critical thinking, civic awareness, and an understanding of diverse perspectives while supporting the district's mission of academic excellence and student growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Instruction & Curriculum
- Develop and implement lesson plans aligned to Arizona Social Studies Standards.
- Deliver instruction in areas such as U.S. history, world history, geography, civics, and economics.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs.
- Incorporate primary and secondary sources to enhance critical thinking and analysis.
- Integrate technology to support instruction and student engagement.
- Student Learning & Assessment
- Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments.
- Use data to inform instruction and adjust teaching strategies.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress.
- Classroom Environment
- Establish and maintain a positive, structured, and safe classroom environment.
- Promote respectful behavior and enforce school and district policies.
- Support students' social-emotional development and citizenship skills.
- Communication & Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and team collaboration.
- Attend staff meetings, trainings, and school events as required.
- Collaborate with colleagues to support cross-curricular connections.
- Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain appropriate certification and endorsements.
- Engage in ongoing professional development.
- Adhere to district policies, procedures, and the Code of Conduct.
- Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
- Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate
- Appropriate Social Studies or Secondary Education endorsement
- IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Knowledge of Arizona Academic Standards
- Experience teaching at the junior high/middle school level
- Strong classroom management skills
- Experience with data-driven instruction
- Familiarity with diverse learning needs and differentiation strategies
- Classroom setting with frequent standing, walking, and interaction with students
- May require lifting up to 25 pounds
- Occasional evening or after-school responsibilities
