American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med Surg/Progressive Care (Stepdown) Unit position requiring telemetry experience, AHA certifications, and availability for 12‑hour night shifts with every other weekend coverage.
Requirements- Active AZ RN license or compact RN license required (willingness to obtain accepted)
- Current AHA certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 1 year of telemetry experience required; 2 years preferred
- Experience in a Med Surg acute care setting required
- BSN not required
- Acute care hospital setting in a Med Surg/Progressive Care (Stepdown) unit
- 18‑bed telemetry unit with 6 PCU‑capable beds, all private rooms
- Unit may house COVID patients as needed using a mixed unit setup with temporary walls and an air handling system
- RN‑to‑patient ratios: 1:4 for Telemetry and 1:3 for PCU/Stepdown
- Common diagnoses include AMI, Stroke/TIA, Pneumonia, Renal (dialysis), AFib with RVR, SIRS, and DM
- Telemetry monitoring via Philips monitors with a dedicated monitor tech room; RNs are expected to validate monitor tech interpretations and document every 4 hours or more frequently as needed
- Medications administered include Cardizem, amiodarone, Bumex, Lasix, Integrilin, octreotide, and Protonix
- No ventilator management required; high‑flow O2 used for COVID stepdown patients and home CPAP supported
- 12‑hour night shifts, 3 shifts per week
- Every other weekend required (nights: Friday & Saturday)
- Charting system:
Allscripts - May be required to float to other Med Surg units
- Support staff on the unit includes telemetry techs, charge nurses, HUCs, and PCTs
- CNAs split the floor, each covering up to 9 patients
- Charge nurse is available 24/7 and takes 0–2 patients when needed
- Nurse managers conduct rounds but do not provide direct patient care
- Hospitalist, Respiratory Therapy, and Pharmacy are all available in‑house 24/7
- No IV team on site; nurses are expected to manage IV access independently
- Orientation consists of 2–3 days with a preceptor (approximately 8 orientation hours)
