DescriptionThis position will enhance professional practice through assessment and evaluation of clinical learning and development opportunities in the department. Develops, implements and evaluates staff development and learning solutions as it relates to clinical practices in the department. Will also partner and collaborate with others to establish and implement learning and development opportunities.
Essential Functions- Reviews, tracks, and orders patient education materials.
- Leading the professional nursing practice by using established standards of care.
- Collaboration with physicians and staff on process improvement and patient safety activities.
- Develops and creates patient education materials.
- Supports implementation of hospital quality and safety goals, policy and procedures and activity designed to meet the requirements of regulatory and accrediting agencies and peer review organizations.
- Conducts research to support, and participates in implementation of evidence‑based practice.
- Acts as a consultant and educator in program development and special projects as determined by the director.
- Collaborates with the Professional Development Team to maintain consistent education throughout the enterprise.
- Oversees and tracks competencies.
- Coordinates preceptorship, orientation of staff including nurse residents and externs.
- Mentors and supports activities that promote professional practice development (including all required department certifications).
- Develops, plans, and facilitates department in‑service offerings including physician education as requested.
- Coordinates and leads the planning and delivery of conversion education in the deployment of new unit specific technology and upgrades.
- Coordinates the development, delivery, and evaluation of clinical staff education related to the unit specific Clinical Information System.
- Maintains on‑going user support structure, provides opportunities for users to share concerns and suggest potential improvements for the use of the information systems, evaluates the impact the information systems have on daily user workflow, and coordinates work with users and the Information Technology department to resolve conflicts between workflow and the information systems.
- Assists Director with application of Standards of Practice and quality improvement in the department.
- Works as a staff RN as requested.
- Teaches mandatory classes as requested.
- Conducts unit rounds for safety, infection control, and patient satisfaction as requested.
- Promotes patient safety standards as a core value of the organization.

- Standard 1:
Assessment – Provides initial and ongoing assessment and interpretation of patients within the framework of holistic professional nursing practice, integrates knowledge from environmental factors, considers cultural and psychosocial factors, identifies barriers to effective communication, monitors patient and family response, and documents findings. - Standard 2:
Diagnosis – Identifies risks to the patient’s health and safety, uses assessment data and clinical decision support tools, corroborates diagnoses with the patient and family, prioritizes diagnoses, and documents findings. - Standard 3:
Outcomes Identification – Identifies expected outcomes for individualized patient treatment plans, documents measurable goals, evaluates outcomes against expectations. - Standard 4:
Planning – Develops, coordinates and updates individualized plans of care based on evidence, prioritizes interventions, modifies plans as needed, and develops comprehensive discharge and education plans. - Standard 5:
Implementation – Establishes therapeutic relationships, initiates and coordinates interventions, ensures implementation and evaluation of care plans, provides counseling, consults with interdisciplinary teams, and maintains equipment and confidentiality. - Standard 6:
