Essential FunctionsResponsibilities include the following nursing standards:
- Standard 1:
Assessment- Provide initial and ongoing assessment and interpretation of patients within a holistic practice framework.
- Integrate knowledge of environmental, cultural, and personal factors into the assessment process.
- Identify barriers to effective communication based on psychosocial, literacy, economic, cultural, and religious considerations.
- Assess patient’s ability to manage health and collaborate with patient or family to identify needs.
- Communicate patient or family needs to the interdisciplinary team and document accurately.
- Monitor patient and family response to interventions, identifying deviations from expected outcomes.
- Standard 2:
Diagnosis- Identify risks to patient health and safety.
- Use assessment data and clinical decision tools to identify and communicate diagnoses.
- Corroborate diagnoses with patient, family, or community.
- Prioritize diagnoses based on mutually agreed goals.
- Document diagnoses to facilitate outcome determination.
- Standard 3:
Outcomes Identification- Identify expected outcomes for an individualized care plan.
- Create culturally sensitive, measurable goals.
- Evaluate outcomes against expected goals.
- Standard 4:
Planning- Develop, coordinate, and update individualized plans based on evidence.
- Prioritize interventions and modify plans as needed.
- Coordinate discharge and education plans.
- Standard 5:
Implementation- Establish therapeutic relationships and coordinate interventions.
- Perform prescribed and independent nursing interventions.
- Ensure implementation and evaluation of the care plan.
- Provide counseling and education to support health promotion.
- Maintain equipment and operations.
- Standard 6:
Evaluation- Evaluate the care plan using patient and provider data.
- Supervise and evaluate direct care staff.
- Revise planned activities based on best practice.
- On‑call for emergency backup as needed.
- Available for weekend and holiday rotation.
- Complete tasks per Skills Delineation List.
- Participate in meetings, in‑services, and policy reviews.
- Review and update department and association policies annually.
- General nursing skills and knowledge of office equipment.
- Excellent computer, communication, critical thinking, problem‑solving, leadership, supervisory, interpersonal skills, and basic math.
- Knowledge of hospital equipment and information systems.
- Self‑direction and motivation.
- Fluency in English.
- AZ RN license.
- CPR/BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
- Certified Occupational Hearing Conservationist (CAOHC).
- DOT drug screening certification.
- NIOSH certification.
- Minimum 2–3 years RN experience in an acute care setting.
Exerts up to 100 lbs force occasionally, up to 50 lbs frequently, up to 20 lbs constantly to move objects. Exposed to chemicals, infectious fluids, heavy lifting, constant standing, close work, and extensive computer work.
