General Position Summary

Responsible for maintaining a safe environment of care by enforcing hospital policies, rules, and regulations in order to protect life, health, and property.

Responsibilities
  • Protect life and property from fire, theft, damage, and trespass.
  • Interact with Title 36 patients to maintain a safe environment for them and staff.
  • Interact with disruptive and combative individuals in a safe manner.
  • Make patrols throughout the building and grounds that are consistent with department goals and metrics.
  • Complete a daily duty log that is thorough and accurate.
  • Be proficient at operating the fire panel control board.
  • Monitor the security camera system for unusual events and activities.
  • Maintain order; aid other staff as needed.
  • Report building and equipment failures to the Plant Services Department.
  • Direct traffic in the buildings and on the grounds.
  • Enforce hospital policies, rules, and regulations with courtesy.
  • Secure patient property for safekeeping using the exact prescribed procedures.
  • Complete thorough electronic incident reports (RL) as required, specifically regarding unusual happenings, suspicious activity, and hazardous conditions.
  • Prepare incident reports as necessary for supplemental purposes in support of law‑enforcement partners.
  • Provide escort services for visitors and staff.
  • Provide access control as appropriate to sensitive areas (including the Emergency Department, Newborn Nursery, Obstetrics, Special Care Units, Pharmacy, etc.).
  • Keep the Emergency Department, Doctors, and other designated parking lots clear of authorized vehicles (i.e., employee vehicles); patrol parking area as part of regular hospital rounds.
  • Maintain safety procedures at the heliport landing sites; clear debris on the landing site.
  • Respond to panic button notifications.
  • Interact with visitors and/or patients and provide directions and assistance as required.
  • Be proficient in radio communications protocol.
  • Display proper etiquette and mannerisms that reflect the SHINE Behavior Standards.
  • Promote the Patient Safety Standards as a core value of the organization.
  • Be proficient in security camera digital recording retrieval and storage.
  • Obtain and maintain the Basic Level officer certification through IAHSS.
  • Work closely with the security dispatch center, providing assistance and relief when necessary.
  • Be familiar and proficient at routine dispatch functions, such as navigating the switchboard, issuing temporary credentials, making overhead page announcements, and working lost and found items.
  • Coordinate communications with Police and Fire Departments.
  • Provide assistance to personnel in the Plant Services and Emergency Departments as needed.
  • Participate in departmental and association wide informational meetings and in services, including staff meetings, association wide forums, and seminars.
  • Assist in assembling the temporary decontamination tent.
  • Help maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Maintain a clean uniform and well‑groomed appearance.
  • Review department and association policies and procedures annually.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands & Job Conditions

Exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Worker is exposed to encounters with upset/disturbed individuals, contact with chemicals, contact with infectious fluids, heavy lifting, and constant standing. Physical motions include finger dexterity, standing, walking, talking, stooping, crawling, reaching, feeling, sitting, bending, climbing, grasping, listening/hearing, handling, lifting up to 50-100 pounds, and repetitive motions of the hands, wrists, and feet.
