POSITION SUMMARY
The Instructor of Criminal Justice serves as a faculty member, responsible for instructing students in SUSLA's Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice and the Associate of Arts Louisiana Transfer Criminal Justice, online and on-campus programs. The instructor will develop and design curriculum plans which foster student learning and provide academic counseling to students.
PRIMARY RESPONSBILITIES:
* Teach courses in the Criminal Justice programs.
* Assess the instructional needs of students in the program and coordinate the development of a plan to address these needs.
* Assist the department chair in scheduling classes for the programs.
* Serve as a student advisor.
* Coordinate with other appropriate faculty to develop the annual core curriculum evaluations of the program, assessment of institutional effectiveness and prepare reports.
* Coordinate course textbook orders and course materials.
* Maintain communication and work cooperatively with instructors of off-campus instructional sites, including Dual Enrollment.
* Assist with the coordination of Dual Credit and Distance Education classes.
* Serve on institutional committees
* Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
* Master's degree in Criminal Justice or a Master's degree with a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate hours in Criminal Justice.
* Two to three years of successful teaching and instructional design experience
* Ability to work independently and in a team environment
* Computer skills are necessary
* Strong attention to detail is essential
Faculty are required to work as needed, which includes teaching on and off-campus sites for both day and evening classes.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Online teaching experience, preferably in a community college setting
* Two to three years of experience working in the Criminal Justice field
