SUMMARY

The instructor is responsible for supervision of clinical students, accurate documentation of students' surgical cases that meet accreditation standards, maintaining good relationships at the clinical sites, participation in advisory board meetings, preparation of students in the lab to ensure readiness for participation in the Operating Room, and professional comportment on campus and at the clinical sites.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Assist in meeting program goals in conjunction with the clinical coordinator and other clinical instructors, which are consistent with the goals of the Division of Allied Health Sciences, and Nursing and the University

* Supervise clinical education

* Provide administration, organization, and provide supervision of student clinical experience

* Ensure documentation of the evaluation and progression of clinical performance leading to clinical competence

* Provide continuous quality review and improvement of student clinical experience

* Ensure orientation to the program's requirements of the personnel who supervise or instruct students at clinical sites

* Participate in the coordination of the assignments of students to clinical sites

* Provide instruction, supervision, and timely assessments of the student's progress in meeting program requirements for each assigned course.

* Communicate students' progress to the clinical coordinator and the Department chair and provide documentation

* Ensure accuracy of clinical logs and skills documentation

* Submit end of semester reports by the requested deadline

* Advise clinical students and laboratory hours as the full time requires

* Submit a Request for Leave in case of absence and ensure coverage of courses during leave time

* Maintain required records and documentation

* Advise students on academic and professional aspects of the program and performance

* Maintain professional expertise

* Communicate with the clinical coordinator on all issues related to students and clinical sites

* Coordinate clinical assignments of both students

* Participate in assessment of program and students learning outcomes.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

* Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency

* Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA)

* Have a minimum of three years of documented experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years

* Possess knowledge of the curriculum

* Possess knowledge about the program's evaluation of student learning and performance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Has a minimum total of 3 years of experience in the ST scrub role or as an ST instructor or both within the last 5 years.

* Holds current CST, CSFA, or CST/CSFA (NBSTSA Certification)

* Possess a minimum of an Associate Degree
