SUMMARY

Southern University at Shreveport, Louisiana (SUSLA) is accepting applications for the Online Instructional Designer position. SUSLA is a comprehensive community college serving Shreveport, Bossier City, and surrounding areas in Northwest Louisiana. It is one of five campuses constituting the Historically Black Southern University System. The University serves approximately 3,000 undergraduate students and offers 32 undergraduate degrees and certificate programs in a variety of fields including Allied Health, Nursing, Aerospace Technology, Business Studies, Behavioral Science/Education and Science & Technology.

POSITION SUMMARY

As an Instructional Designer at Southern University at Shreveport, you will be integral in shaping and enhancing the learning experience for our students and faculty. Your primary role will involve collaborating with faculty and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to design, develop and enhance high quality, engaging course content across various learning modalities, including online, virtual, hybrid, and face-to-face environments. You will be responsible for creating standardized content that adheres to ADA Standards for Accessible Design and Quality Matters guidelines.

Additionally, you will support faculty through professional development training and enhance their teaching practices to improve student interaction and learning outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Instructional Designer will work with faculty to create expertly designed courses with engaging, accessible course content that can be delivered in the following modalities: online, virtual, hybrid, and face-to-face. Duties and responsibilities will include designing online course templates, creating standardized course content, conducting regular course reviews for content quality and accessibility, ensuring that course content is compliant with ADA Standards for Accessible Design, helping faculty with course alignment, and improving teacher-student interaction, via electronic communication, discussions, and web-based interactive learning activities.

The Instructional Designer will also conduct faculty development training for improving quality teaching and active student learning within all modalities of learning.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Collaborate with faculty and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to design, develop and enhance engaging, pedagogically sound learning activities and compelling course content that effectively promotes knowledge transfer and retention.

* Develop and implement online course templates and standardized content that aligns with best practices in instructional design.

* Review, evaluate, and enhance existing training programs and course content to ensure alignment with ADA Standards for Accessible Design and Quality Matters criteria.

* Conduct regular reviews of course content to assess quality and accessibility, recommending enhancements to strengthen the learning experience.

* Redesign courses for effective online and distance learning presentations, ensuring content is optimize for different delivery formats.

* Create, update, distribute diverse learning materials, including E-Learning modules, instructional manuals, and Train the Trainer resources.

* Conduct on-going training sessions and workshops to support faculty in improving course design and teaching practices.

* Provide ongoing support to faculty to enhance teaching effectiveness and student engagement through electronic communication, discussions, and interactive web-based activities.

* Manage multiple instructional design projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.

* Utilize project management tools to track progress, address issues, and ensure successful project outcomes.

* Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned, contributing your expertise to support the institution's educational goals.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Master's Degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Instructional Technology, Education, or related field

* A minimum of two (2) years of experience designing and developing courses, curricula, and instructional strategies for learning, and or online courses

* Knowledge of current compliance standards related to ensuring accessibility

* Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality online instructional design support using a dedicated learning management system

* Demonstrated ability to develop content that is compliant with ADA Standards for Accessible design

* Demonstrated ability to provide faculty professional development and training related to course design

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Ph.D. in Education, Educational or Instructional Technology or related field

* Quality Matters Certified Peer Reviewer

* Quality Matters Certificate in Applying the Quality Matters Rubric

* Open Educational Resource Experience

COMPENSATION: $60,000-$65,000
