Summary

Performs instructional support for students with disabilities in inclusive, resource, and self‑contained classrooms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work with students individually or in groups to provide instructional support.
  • Implement the instructional plan developed with the classroom teacher and adjust it based on student needs.
  • Implement strategies and accommodations from individual education programs (IEPs) and emergency health plans.
  • Maintain logs/schedules of support for students.
  • Assist in the routine supervision of study areas, cafeterias, halls, playground, instructional field trips, and bus loading areas.
  • Perform non‑complex health procedures, implement individual health plans, and attend required health training.
  • Reinforce positive student behavior and implement behavior plans.
  • Assist students with computer applications and assistive technology.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information pursuant to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
  • Perform related duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications

Education and/or

Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Pass teacher/paraprofessional assessment test with a score of 450 or higher.
  • Associate degree or higher (original transcripts required).
  • 48 hours of college with six hours of Math and nine hours of English (original transcripts required).

Language

Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of students and parents.
  • Ability to present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings.

Physical Demands:

Employee will regularly stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and assist in lifting and positioning students.

Work Environment:

Noise level usually loud; collaboration with instructional staff is essential.

Professional Conduct

Maintain high standards of professional conduct and confidentiality per FERPA.

Chain of Supervision

Principal, teacher, designated certified personnel.

Terms of Employment

170 days.
