Purpose

This position will perform engineering project assignments with an emphasis on process improvements, including the design and upgrade of existing facilities. The project manager will plan, execute, and conclude projects, meeting deadlines and staying within budget. Key responsibilities include acquiring resources, coordinating with team members, and engaging third‑party contractors or consultants to deliver projects on schedule.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Direct, coordinate, and exercise functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering projects within the assigned area.
  • Perform or coordinate the required engineering work, cost estimating, and drafting associated with projects, including PFDs, P&IDs, equipment selection, sizing, and specification development in accordance with company engineering standards and best practices.
  • Demonstrate practical understanding of all phases of the Calumet PMG project delivery process.
  • Prepare bid packages, evaluate equipment inquiries, and manage the leads evaluation and selection process.
  • Control expenditures within the limits of the project budget.
  • Prepare interim and final project reports.
  • Assign project personnel to specific phases or aspects—such as technical studies, product design, specification preparation, technical plans, and testing—in accordance with engineering discipline staff.
  • Manage project resources to assure adherence to scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Ensure design reviews are performed to comply with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Coordinate technical development, scheduling, and the resolution of engineering design and test problems.
  • Direct all activities associated with project implementation and successful completion.
  • Lead project engineers, construction coordinators, and supervisors.
  • Direct draftsmen on project drawing requirements.
  • Conduct safety audits and evaluations of contractors and plant personnel.
  • Perform supervisory responsibilities for 1‑3 direct reports.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.
  • 7+ years of project management experience in a refinery or chemical plant setting.
Experience and Skills
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
  • Ability to assess, project, and review overall project costs.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with competing deadlines.
  • Experience soliciting, preparing, and evaluating bids for projects and project components.
  • Excellent safety record and experience with safety training, planning, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience leading and operating independently and within a team‑oriented, collaborative environment.
  • General business, accounting, and financial skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Project, MS Teams, SharePoint, Power BI, Word, Excel, and P6.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Good commercial knowledge.
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills and a proven leadership track record.
  • Ability to work across multiple platforms to deliver results within challenging deadlines and under pressure.
